Eastern Samar wins second crown in Sinulog Festival Queen history! Congratulations to Borongan City’s lead dancer, Ms. Monika Afable who was crowned as Sinulog Festival Queen 2020 yesterday, January 17, 2020 at Cebu City Sports Center. Prior to the main crown, she was earlier hailed as Best in Runway and Robinsons Galleria Cebu Festival Queen held at Robinsons Galleria Cebu last Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Ms. Afable who is a Grade 11 student at Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School is not new to pageantry since she is the reigning Binibining Baysay Borongan crowned last August 2019 and recently placed 1st Runner-Up in the province-wide search of Binibining Silangang Samar Turismo 2019 last November 2019. Representing Tribu Rayhak of Borongan City, Eastern Samar in this year’s Sinulog Festival, Ms. Afable is the second Estehanon to have ever been crowned as Sinulog Festival Queen. She follows the feat of Ms. Rose Jane Tiunayan in 2007 representing Karasikas Performing Arts Guild of Eastern Samar who was originally 1st Runner-Up but eventually replaced the dethroned winner having failed to appear in the grand parade, giving the first crown to not just Eastern Samar but to the whole Eastern Visayas region in Cebu’s history. Eastern Visayas is indeed home to captivating beauties and colorful festivals, which are just few of the many reasons to visit and experience the infinite escapes in EV!
