I have a few questions about the awkward father-son relationship between Ben and Milo. 1) Does Milo have a form of stockholm syndrome? 2) When does Ben have his sister explain to him that he can't just keep Milo in a cage when he is away and what was the new "room" for Milo? 3) Did Ben attempt to find Milo's family and did Milo ever tell Ben that he was left behind?
No. Keep in mind, Milo is only 6 years old, and even though he's a borrower he still isn't entirely self sufficient in a way that he could take care of himself. Even though he doesn't trust Ben due to the fear of god being struck into him about how awful humans are, it's not very difficult to convince him to accept food or comfort items. He's just acting as any other traumatized kid would, which is taking any sort of care he can get, even if he's terrified.
His sister explains more about borrowers and child rearing in general when he breaks down and calls her because he's worried that Milo might be dangerously sick a few weeks afterwards. He wasn't, thankfully, just extremely depressed, which still isn't healthy, to which Elysie more or less tells him "let the baby out of the cage its fine borrowers are meant to be free roamers". Milo's room is still a covered cage, but it's nicer quality and full of comfort items like pillows and toys, with the door always open so that he can come and go whenever he pleases or if he wants privacy. He has full access to the house otherwise.
Ben eventually got Milo to admit that everyone else had left the house, just not why, so Ben didn't go back to check if anyone was still there. He'd have no idea where the borrower colony would have gone, meaning he has next to no hope in being able to look for them. Ben assumes Milo just got tangled up in an accident during a panicked escape and probably no one realized it until they had left, although he is keeping an ear out if that house gets scheduled again for a recurrent problem, just in case it might be a borrower coming back to look for Milo.
