Shuri wasn’t foolish - she knew that taking up the mantle of Black Panther would be a challenge. Her brother had trained for years and still he struggled, while she had only toyed with the thought for two years. It hadn’t been easy to convince her country that she was able to lead - ghosting Wakanda for three and a half years in search of answers to their predicament simply could not go unnoticed. 

However, in time the young woman had said her final farewells to her lab and took on the responsibility that was destined for her. It was a stark change, and one that she definitely wasn’t happy about, but she knew that she had to put her people’s needs before her own. Whether she liked it or not, her father and brother were watching, and she had to make them proud. 

It was that drive that kept her going as the heart-shaped herb’s powers flowed through her, that same drive that fueled her on her first missions. It was a smaller one to start, teaming up with the Red Robin, whom she’d worked with on multiple occasions before. It should have been easy. 

Yet there she stood, perched on top of a London building. She thought she could be a hero, though the innocent young man, the one she hadn’t accounted for - the one who’d died before she could save him - convinced her otherwise. 

The Robin’s words echoed in one ear and out the other, causing the queen to lift her head up at him. “What?” she asked, voice hushed. “How do you do this? I could have saved all of them, I... A man has died. I had the power to stop it, and I couldn’t.” Shuri could feel the familiar lump in her throat, the burning in her eyes, though she squeezed them shut before tears threatened to spill over.

Just seeing Tim was enough to leave a bad taste in his mouth. A reminder of everything he wasn’t. Everything he couldn’t be. Rage welled in his chest to rival a red lantern.

And deep down he knew it wasn’t Tim’s fault. But that was deep deep down. Surface level he was going to tear him apart if he could get his hands on him. Emoutinals were still raw. But he managed to stay seated behind his desk as he stared across the warehouse office.

             it kinda comes out of nowhere. lorna’s stressed ( as per usual, gaining two half siblings and a mutant villain father in the same 30 day time period isn’t exactly stress relieving ), and lorna’s hanging at the mansion. THAT sorta relaxes her ( she’s learned to block her mind, so that’s a plus ). “ i don’t know. maybe with some people. but someone like him ?? he’s killed people. willingly. i don’t know if a heart like that can change. or wants to change. ”
