Oh! This is so sad, I think it's the last question of the month ;-) Haha! I'm so glad I met you!! So here it is : because I love them: AUs and CrossOvers. Any favorite AU tropes? A good AU you've read lately? favorite crossover? the best crossover ever would be...? and the questions that kills and doesn't have anything to do with AUs or crossovers: Do you have a favorite doctor/rose FF author? Who and why?

Noooooo!!  These interviews/BOTM questions have been so much fun, but I’m sure it will be good to not be distracted by them every week, because they take a really long time.  Ha!

This week’s topic is actually a favorite of mine as well.  When I first started reading fanfic, I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but turns out a well written AU with on-point characterization simply expands this great world of Doctor and Rose, and one can never have too much of that, right?

I explain this on the sidebar of my blog, but to clarify, I classify an alternative universe (AU) as all human, with the same characters, but in a completely different universe/world (i.e. grocery shopping, superhero, neighbors, etc.).  Alternatively, I use the term universe alteration (UA) to describe a story within the primary universe with the Doctor as a Time Lord, but does not always follow canon and can/will include canon divergence (i.e. Doctor/Rose meet in alternative ways, season rewrites, something happens and Doomsday ever occurs, etc.).

Keep in mind this is how I classify recced fic on this blog, so it may differ slightly from how others classify fanfic.  I just found it to be the easiest way for me to separate differences in my mind.  

OK, onto the questions!! Oh, quick note, while writing this I discovered I am total Nine/Rose AU trash, and…yeah…not sorry…

I hesitantly approached reading crossover fanfic, because I highly doubted that there could be any successful conversion of two different fandoms.  This was especially true with Harry Potter, because I literally trust no one but JK to manipulate that universe.  But now I’m totally hooked on crossovers, and if anyone wants to write me a Mr. & Mrs. Smith (movie) crossover with Ten and Rose, that’d be great, kay, thanks. *ahem*

Favorite Doctor/Rose FF author:

RUDE.  This question is THE WORST.  I feel like there’s someone MAJOR I’m forgetting, and it’s so overwhelming going through all my bookmarks/favorites/etc.  Part of the difficulty with this question is that my favorites are my favorites for different reasons, and I think every writer has his/her strengths and weaknesses.  Sometimes I’ve only read 1 or 2 of a writer’s works, and one of those stories could be an all-time favorite.  So here are my top 5 favorites for today, in no particular order.  These are all writers I can remember from my earliest fanfic reading days just about a year ago now, and they all have stories I’ve read AT LEAST once, some multiple times.

Hullo! Let's go with your reading habits: What do you prefer to read in Doctor/Rose FF - Favorite genre? favorite episode? favorite Doctor? favorite clichés? favorite tropes? favorite side character? favorite side pairing? Longer or shorter fic? What turn you off when reading a summary? What can make you stop reading a fic? Canon or not? ...

Oh boy, you have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself intowith these questions.  Ha.  But really. I have to admit that I’ve only been reading DW fanfic (and fanfic ingeneral) since last summer (2014) sometime. I have no recollection of how I found it or the initial fanfic I read,but I was unemployed and celebrating being done with one phase of my schooling,soooooo………

Favorite genre:This is such a hard question, because I really love all ofit.  The romance, the angst, the fluff,the reunion fic, everything.  When Ifirst started reading fanfic I had a hard time with angst, because hello, Ijust want happy times with these two idiots together.  However, I’ve recently come to appreciate thebrilliance of well written angst as long as there is a reason for it AND it ends well.

Favorite episode:Well,hmmmmm.  I recently read a gorgeous storypost-Dalek with Nine and Rose.  And Ithink my favorite episodes with Ten x Rose would be after The Idiot’s Lanternor The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit.  Unless it’s an actual rewrite, I tend toprefer post-episode stories when they deal with the aftermath of whateverhappened.  There was this one post-Age ofSteel one-shot by lauraxxtennant that I found so beautiful.  Maybe I just like the peace and healing andmoving forward (preferably with lips touching) after the chaos.  Ref: post-Dalek (Radiance inthe Dark by CuratioLethe)Ref: post-Age of Steel (above the cold sky shoneby lauraxxtennant)

Favorite Doctor:Rude.  OK, so I adorethe Tenth Doctor and Rose.  Long-term, Ilove them together, and they will always be my ultimate OTP.  But let me tell you, I have a huge weaknessfor the Ninth Doctor.  When Nine iswritten well, there is something just magical about his character, and heoffers such a searing and beautiful interaction with Rose that gives theirrelationship this raw quality that I just never/rarely feel with the TenthDoctor.   

Favorite clichés:I’m not sure if this is in Classic Who (still haven’twatched it, but it’s on my “to do” list for this year), or if it’s only canonbecause of the Eleventh Doctor and River during their [insert: blatant use ofquotation fingers] “handfasting” non-wedding, but I do love me some handfastingand telepathic bonding.  I’m not sure ifthat classifies as a cliché, but whatever. Gimmie.  (Just not with the Doctorand River, if I haven’t made my opinions on THATclear enough.)

Favorite tropes:Fake married, definitely. Oooooooh, and body swap is fun, especially when written byrointheta.  Ref: Two Weeksby rointheta 

Favorite side character:THE TARDIS.  I adorethe TARDIS when she plays matchmaker, plays jokes on the Doctor, or gets up tomischievous things.  Definitely theTARDIS.  (Human wise, I love a well written Jackie and/or Donna.  Oh, and Jack.) 

Favorite side pairing:I actually enjoy Amy and Rory together in fanfic when theyare presented outside of Moffat regulated Doctor Who.   

Longer or shorter fic:This is really dependent on my RL situation when I havetime to read fanfic.  Ultimately, I lovea long fanfic.  A longer fanfic gives thereader a significant plot, time for ample character development, and hopefullysome good plot twists.  However, longfanfic also requires more time to read. Lately I’ve been enjoying some shorter fanfic, either one shots or shortmulti chapter stories, because school has been stressful, and I don’t reallyhave the time to get sucked into an epic tale. (Or I’ve been rereading favorites I’ve already read multiple times toshare on my fanfic blog.) 

What turns you off when reading a summary?:There have been a FEW exceptions to the rule, but I generally don’t read OT3 couplings and Rose or the Doctor with anyone but each other.  Also on the no-no list is Tentoo prematurelydying in Pete’s World, and I also tread cautiously with non-consituations.  ~exceptions to the rule~Before itBreaks by resileStuck with You/With orWithout You by gallifreyslostson and larxenthefirefly (I haven’t even seen The Thick of It…honestly…I mean, Idon’t even know what happened here.) 

What can make you stop reading a fic?:Out of character writing, especially with dialogue.  I was reading a story a few weeks ago, and Istopped reading during the smut, because it was just…so…weird.  And it was all in the dialogue.  I’m sure there’s been more, but that’s whatstopped me most recently.

Canon or not?:Whatever, honestly!!  I love agood AU fic.  I don’t mind canon, either,as long as the writer is nice to Tentoo. But really, I’m most happy with some good canon diversion and either noDoomsday or post-Doomsday reunion and eventual happily ever after.  OH!  Ialso have a weakness for season rewrites with Rose (a.k.a.
