I was very fond of British indie/alt pop duo THUMPERS’ 2014 debut full length, Galore, which features one of my favorite earworms of that year, Unkinder (A Tougher Love). I can’t help but be thrilled to find out that THUMPERS will be releasing a sophomore album named Whipped & Glazed come September 1st, and they’ve revealed its first single, Boundary Loves. It’s a bittersweet thrumming, rich spiraling alt pop song with smudgy basslines, gargantuan hooks, and a tale about failed romance within the city limits. Singer/guitarist Marcus Pepperell says the song is about a love between one man, his neighborhood, and the 10,000 other people just like him that are nevertheless somehow ruining it. “It’s as painful a love story as anyone gets to be a part of.” There’s a honeyed lilt to Boundary Loves that reminds me of BØRNS, but plastered with the jangly lushness that I’ve always loved about much of THUMPERS’ vivid music. The single can also be streamed via YouTube below.
