thoughts keeping me awake, the reunion between bow lion and haniwa was everything, my heart skipped a beat. haniwa apologizing to bow lion, and them taking each other in their arms as the sisters they're meant to be aaaaahhhh~
"See" is Blindingly Good Storytelling That No One is Seeing
[Disclaimer: I talk about Haniwa’s character negatively here, please do not read if you happen to like her.]

But how are you going to have a show where everyone is blind? No, seriously, how?
See is an Apple Tv+ original series where 600 years into the future, humanity has lost the ability to see. Everyone is blind. But when a set of twins are born with sight, things begin to change. That’s it, that’s the show. And I watched it with my jaw on the floor! Until at least episode 2, I was waiting for it to fall on its face. Because no way they are pulling off a show where everyone is blind.
But it didn’t. And it was so good. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen something like this – so absurdly unique, innovative, imaginative and just all around fantastic. I kept thinking about it days after I completed it. I even tried to walk with my eyes closed (did not make it far). I just couldn’t get enough of the world and characters See had so meticulously built. And the more I thought about it, the angrier I got.
Because why did I not know this show existed? Why did I just RANDOMLY find it? I should have been hearing about it everywhere. People should be going gaga over this out-of-the-world concept. Like they do about other high-concept shows like Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, The Boys and Cobra Kai. And the people who have seen See do love it. So it’s not that the show is bad. It’s just that it’s on a platform relatively less people have access to.
The last show I watched was Fate: The Winx Saga, which was a painful experience as it was so shockingly devoid of creativity. Watching See after that was like seeing the face of god. Because this show is nothing if not creative. And yes, I know Steven Knight is not the first person to come up with the concept. But he is the first to bring it to my screen, so! First of all, the idea that it’s set 600 years into the future but we have actually regressed to living like cavemen is so good.
Futuristic stories, even dystopian, present the idea that even a crappy world where people are obviously unhappy is just what the progress of the human species looks like. I mean, even as we are all dying in the plague today, we still won’t say people in 13th century had it better, would we? But to flip that concept on its head where we have regressed in the future because we lost the most crucial ability to survive is kind of brilliant. So you have the scenery of destroyed flyovers and giant generators that may or may not work but you also live in tiny huts and can’t make a bridge to save your life. I like it.

No one can both be and then not be all at once.
She moves only when others move. Even ayuras can’t hear her. She purges herself of thought. Even priest sages can’t sense her. She’s in another place, undetectable. Even dogs think they are stone.
