@bowstrung gets a birthday treat.
deruned verse, post break up and reunion, alec’s birthday morning.
❝are they closed?!! they better be!” close your eyes!! had been jace’s first shouted instruction as soon as he heard alec’s steps down the hall, showing him that his boyfriend had woken up before he was supposed to, and had left the bed without permission. jace had rushed to finish his preparations while alec waited, standing with his eyes closed, and now that it was done, he finally walked up to him, a smile on his face.
he held alec’s and pulled himself up to him, kissing him shortly but hard and hungry, enough to leave a small bite mark on the lower one. “that was for waking up too soon.” he teased, speaking roughly against his lips, before smiling more as alec kept his eyes closed. “you can open them now.” he grinned. “there you are... happy birthday, alec.” he hummed, crossing his arms behind alec’s neck and kissing him again, for good measure. “alright, you can look.” he let go and stepped back, nodding towards the open space that consisted alec’s medium sized kitchen and living room. on the table breakfast was served, with all alec’s favorites, partly bought at his favorite bakery and some handmade such as scrambled eggs, juice and bacon. “sit. eat.” he pointed, but walked to the other side of the room himself.
there, by the old factory style windows, there was a small vintage piano, that had been bought at a flee market an year ago. jace’s piano. the one that used to sit at jace’s OWN apartment. the one jace had bought just a few months after breaking up with alec, and that definitely hadn’t been there last night before alec went to sleep. jace smiled at him, as he walked over an sat, facing alec, though a few feet away. “sit!” he demanded again, though in a bright warm tone, that showed he was excited. he breathed as he opened the piano’s lid then stroked the keys gently, face becoming serious as he glanced down, and then he started.
jace’s expression grew soft and focused as his fingers started to flow over the keys in the soft, gentle, melody. it was warm, rich, strong and kind all the same, with a bit of sadness to it, but with a strong romantic core. he didn’t look at alec as he played, too engrossed in the act, not wanting want to get a single key wrong, and he didn’t. he was still shirtless, hair tousled from running his hands after he woke up and in the sweatpants he had slept in, entangled with alec last night. the minutes passes softly as he played, and he didn’t know if alec was eating or not, but he hoped he would, most of all, he hoped he enjoyed what he was listening to. jace hadn’t played for alec in a couple of years, not since they’d been cast away from the institute. it’d been almost four months since they’d mended their relationship, but they had kept their separate places until now, and a week ago, alec had mentioned that he wouldn’t mind if that changed. and jace was ready. he had been ready for a while.
their time apart as painful as it had been, had served him good. had made him grow up without alec and think about him and every single reason why jace loved him, and made him realize all those reasons were reasons why he also had to love himself, because that was the only way they would ever be happy together. it had been a long hard process, but they had found their way back. and now it was time to drop the uncertainties, the pain, the doubt, the fear, and celebrate. he stared at his hands for a second as he finished, then looked up with a small smile. “i composed this for you.” he admitted, before slowly getting up and starting to cross the room back to alec. “in the time we spent apart, every time i thought about you, i’d sit there and play, it helped me think.’ he confessed, just as he got closer.
he walked right up to alec and slid between him and the table, straddling his lap. “you asked me if we were ready to go back to living together, you told me to think.” he smiled. “i have. and i realized we’re more than ready, that i am, and there is nowhere else i’d rather be, alec.” he places his arms around his neck. “if you still want me to, i can move in by the end of the week.” he smiled again, expectant, and full of hope, heart beating wild in his chest.
