Dudes Stumble, 2 Straight Losses as Playoffs Near
It's been a season of ups and downs so far for The Best Dressed Team in BC™. Whether it's low turnout, a slow start, bad bounces, or sometimes just Father Time, the results have been pretty inconsistent for your friendly neighbourhood Victoria Blazers this year.
The most recent slide started a couple weeks ago, with the good guys underestimating a surging W̱SÁNEĆ Arrows squad led by recent acquisition and friend of the Blazers Tory Bains, who has taken the league by storm with 30 goals in 7 games to lead the VILL, with half the games played of the other leaders. Then the dudes linked up with the Jokers and couldn't solve their goaltending, falling 8-3.
Don't count the Blazers out yet though! The pieces are there, it's just not clicking yet. While the runway is running out, there's still time for the dudes with good attitudes to find their stride.
We return to action Thursday night, taking on the defending VILL champion Victoria Jokers Thursday at Panorama up in North Saanich for the late game. Come check it out - admission is free!

Two More Wins, Dudes Climb to #2 in VILL South
Look good, feel good, play good! The Best Dressed Team in BC™ is starting to get rolling.
Last week the good guys pulled in to North Saanich to face a red hot Westshore Aces squad, who was fresh off a dominant win over the defending champion Jokers to chalk up their fifth straight, leading star studded VILL south division in win percentage. Your friendly neighbourhood Victoria Blazers had already lost twice to the Aces, most recently on the heels of some terrible bench penalties on line changes, rendering the cats unable to stay in the game.
This matchup was different. The Blazers welcomed their star goaltender Rob Wood back into the lineup, and for the first time all year the dudes had a mostly healthy roster.
Veteran righty sniper Devon Casey (1G) opened the scoring for the Blazers, but the Aces answered with a pair to regain the lead. Star scorer Parker Johnson (1G 2A) added to the Blazers total to even things up, but the Aces potted 2 more to end the frame with a 4-2 lead.
In the second, the Blazers got right to work, with a pair of goals from lefty sharpshooter Seve Cordero (2G 2A), and clutch scorer AJ Lockwood (3G) getting on the sheet. The Aces answered again with 3 of their own, with newcomer Landon Underwood (2G) tallying for the dudes. Lefty transition beast Rhett Smith (1G 1A) buried one for the dudes late, to narrow the gap. 7-6 Aces after two periods.
The Aces opened the scoring in the final frame, but then the dudes locked in with 3 big ones to claim a lead late. In the final minute the Blazers made things interesting with a transition turnover and penalty to give the Aces a late powerplay, but Wood shut the door in net and the Blazers capped off the win with a clutch short handed goal. 10-8 Blazers win!
Transition scorer Adam West-Patrick (2A), veteran playmaker Julian Spence (2A), face-off specialist and transition machine Colt Gnech (2A), and defenders Tom Arsenault (1A) and Trevor Hansen (1A) also got on the sheet for the dudes. Great game for these gents.

On the weekend, the dudes with good attitudes were in action again, headed to Duncan to play the Cowichan Thunder. The good guys were very short handed once again (what is with the Blazers and road games?), but luckily the Thunder were short too.
The first period was neck and neck (is it neck and neck or neck in neck? I think it must be neck and neck). The Thunder opened the scoring, but the Blazers answered with a pair. The Thunder bounced back in the final minute to secure a 2-2 tie.
In the second, the Blazers opened up with 4 unanswered goals to take control of the game, and they didn't look back. 6-4 for the dudes.
In the third, the Blazers opened the scoring, but the Thunder wasn't ready to go away with a pair of their own. But the Blazers responded with 2 more to reclaim an insurmountable edge. 9-4 win for the Blazers.

Blazers Back From US Tour, Back in Win Column
The good guys are back on the right side of the line, after a heck of a side quest playing down in Washington against top US box teams. Stay tuned for a recap of that journey in the coming weeks - great times!
Anywhoo, back to VILL business! your friendly neighbourhood Victoria Blazers faced a tough test a few nights ago, facing a surging W̱SÁNEĆ Arrows squad with friend-of-the-Blazers Tory Bains going on a scoring rampage in an Arrows jersey. Luckily the Blazers made a few key additions of their own the other night, adding scorers Seve Cordero and Landon Underwood (both from the now-defunct Saanich Express) to the minty fresh green and pink Blazers family. Let's recap the action, shall we?
The Best Dressed Team in BC™ had a relatively quiet first period, wrapping it up tied 1-1 with early goals traded from Seve Cordero (1G, 1A) and Bains (3G). In the second frame the Blazers started to tilt the floor, outshooting the Arrows 20-10 and getting goals from Colt Gnech (1G), Parker Johnson (1G, 1A), Zack Dhillon (2G) and Trevor Hansen (2G, 1A) to hold a 5-4 edge. In the third the dudes widened the gap with goals from AJ Lockwood (1G, 1A) and Landon Underwood (1G, 1A). Julian Spence (2A) and Adam West-Patrick (2A) also helped to close the show with a 9-7 win.

Moral Victories? 11-Man Blazers Fall Just Short to VILL #1 Jokers
Where the heck are the Victoria Blazers? Everyone knows you can't win with 11 guys, especially against the island's top team, the undefeated defending champion Victoria Jokers. It was a big game, one you'd probably want to bring a proper team to. Where are the Blazers? (Hello? Bueller? That's a 40-year-old reference to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.) But somehow, the Blazers got real close.
The Blazers opened the scoring on Thursday, and jumped ahead to an early 4-2 lead, with offense from scoring sensation Parker Johnson (4G, 1A) and star sniper Devon Casey (2G, 1A), but the Jokers corrected course late in the frame to regain the lead 6-4.
In the second, the The Best Dressed Team in BC™ held control of the period with goals from two-way star Rhett Smith (1G) veteran sniper AJ Lockwood (2G +3A), and lefty threat Sam Tschritter (1G, 1A). 10-9 good guys at the end of the period.
In the third, the Blazers got another goal from newcomer defensive powerhouse Dylan Rehman (1G), but there just wasn't enough gas in the tank to stay in the game. The Jokers pulled away late, capped off with a penalty shot goal off a bad line change from the Blazers. 13-11 Jokers, final score. Link to box score.

Blazers Cook Rats to Kick Off Busy Week
Chalk up another dub for the dudes! What a difference a full bench makes. Games with the Rats are always hard fought battles, and this was no different, but in the end, the Blazers came out on top.
The Blazers and Rats traded goals early, with two way star Rhett Smith (1G, 2A) opening the scoring for the good guys. Then the Blazers took off. Superstar sniper pickup Parker Johnson (5G) potted back-to-back goals to lock up a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
In the second, the The Best Dressed Team in BC™ really got rolling, scoring 6 straight before the Rats could answer. Veteran star playmaker Julian Spence (2G, 4a), lefty sniper Sam Tschritter (1G, 1A), defensive superstar Tom Arsenault (1G), and veteran star AJ Lockwood (1G, 1A) all got on the board to widen the lead to 9-1. The Rats answered with a couple goals to close the gap, but the Blazers bounced right back with two more of their own from scoring sensations Adam West-Patick (1G, 4A) and Devon Casey (1G).
In the third, the Rats did most of the scoring with a couple Blazers tallies sprinkled in. Not enough to close the gap though. Final score 13-8 for the Blazers. The win was a big milestone for the guy between the pipes for the Blazers, Mat Bruyere. Why? It was his first start in goal in almost a decade, last playing in Quebec. In the end, a great win! Blazers Split Road Games, Return to Action Tonight

As the years go by, one thing doesn't seem to change - The Best Dressed Team in BC™ doesn't seem to travel well. Getting guys to leave Victoria for a road game just never ends up looking so hot. For our up island trip this year, the Blazers were looking at 8 players for a Saturday affair in Nanaimo, and 7 for the Sunday in Parksville. Not ideal.
Luckily, we found some guys to help us out. 5 members of the Oceanside Sharks threw on some Blazers jerseys Saturday night in Nanaimo and helped lift us to a short-handed win. Adam West-Patrick was huge for the good guys with 2G + 2A, and newcomer Brett Fleming added 3G (link to box score). Big shout out to Rick, Jayden, Owen, Tristan and Jared for bailing us out.
Unfortunately, Sunday was a tougher test. Parksville's junior squad lent us some runners, the Cowichan Thunder lent us a goaltender (thanks Apollo), and we managed to get a guy from the Jokers (Jace) and Aces (Brandon) too. Thanks guys. Things were looking ok early, with your friendly neighbourhood Victoria Blazers taking the early lead. Then injuries hit. One of our guys left the game with a serious foot injury. More bumps and bruises and more guys out of the lineup as the game progressed. The Sharks turned the tide in front of their home fans, and took control of the game. Then they capped things off with a goalie goal while we had our goaltender pulled. Another loss for the dudes (link to boxscore). Dang. The Blazers now sit 2-2 on the season, pacing for 3rd place in a very competitive VILL South Division. The squad has some work to do for sure.
The Blazers take their road lessons back home this week, starting tonight at 7:30 when they host the Cowichan River Rats out at Panorama Rec. Come check out the action - admission is free!

VILL Season Opener: Reeling Blazers Lit Up Early by Aces, Unable to Recover
The 2026 VILL Season is here! It began at 9pm on Tuesday for your friendly neighbourhood Victoria Blazers, but it looked like the good guys weren't ready to play until closer to 10. The Aces made a statement early, and the Blazers had a terrible start. The result? Big yikes.
In the first period, the The Best Dressed Team in BC™ got absolutely shelled in terms of time of possession, shots on goal, and faceoffs, with the Aces controlling every aspect of the game. Luckily pickup goaltender Jacob Barker on loan from the W̱SÁNEĆ Arrows was an absolute force in net, limiting the damage to 3-1 Aces at the end of the first period.
In the second period the Blazers potted one early to close the gap, but late in the period things fell apart. 3 straight goals for the Aces. Then 2 more to start the third. 8-2 Aces midway through the third period.
Then, the Blazers showed signs of life. Winning battles, better communication, and goals in bunches. With 4 minutes left, it was 9-7 Aces. But the Aces showed character and answered back to push things back out to 10-7. The Blazers potted again, but one final empty netter capped off the night. 11-8 Aces (link to box score). The Blazers open the season 0-1.
Luckily, we get a chance to shake things off quickly, with another game lined up Thursday against the W̱SÁNEĆ Arrows. Come check it out, 9pm @ Panorama Rec Centre in North Saanich. Admission is free!
