"PREMIER HONORED WITH WIFE AS PROXY," Toronto Star. September 29, 1934. Page 23. ---- Throbbing drums yesterday welcomed members of the Six Nations Indian confederacy to Oshweken for a ceremony at which chieftainship was bestowed on two leaders of the Ontario government. Premier Hepburn, ill at his home in St. Thomas, was represented by Mrs. Hepburn, who received as his proxy the title of Chief Roe-Ne-Ren-Ne, meaning "The people are following him." In this photograph Mrs. Hepburn is shown with Mrs. George Green, wife of the chief who conducted the ceremony. Also honored was Hon. Harry Nixon.
