That wasnât all he was though. There have been a lot of fucked-up people who have impacted peopleâs lives. A lot of people have trouble separating art from the artist.
I never said that was all he was and I like a lot of his music but I still think he was a dick because he beat the shit out of his wife regularly. I believe in repentance and atonement and all of that crap but no one has to forgive a person for something like domestic violence and I don't forgive John Lennon.
I mean, I don't know man, I get that if you wrote off every piece of art, literature, music, film that was made by/involved some guy who beat women then you would never see or read or hear any art ever but I think you're having trouble separating the art from the artist too, because I don't think you would have jumped in to defend John Lennon if you didn't love his music - If I was talking about Charlie Sheen you never would have said, "that's not all he is though". I get it, John Lennon means a lot to a lot of people, but he was also a man who beat women and  it's not okay and it shouldn't be ignored the way it is because to ignore it is to allow it, like we're saying because he was such a "great man" it was okay, but it's not okay, we can't just put it away and excuse it because it sucks extra hard when someone we thought was cool turned out to be like that. So John Lennon; some good music, good ideas about staying in bed all the time but also a complete dick who I hate.
