Winter's coming = intense hat making
It started to get cold, so I've picked up my knitting needles again. It seems crazy to me, because I barely knitted anything all summer (I had all those crazy projects too) and now that temperature has dropped and the holidays are coming, I cannot stop. I'm approaching hibernation period.
So I recently finished the boyfriend hat by Purl Soho. I used the Quince Co.'s Owl yarn in Barred. I've been wanting to do this project since last spring, but I'm still a beginner at figuring out gauging with different kinds of yarns and needle size. I tried last year and all the hat I made failed miserably. I actually had to start this hat over twice, before I got the size right... I don't like to do a test swatch so this is what you get. After I finally got the circumference right though, it was a fun and easy beginner hat to do. And exactly what my fisherman boyfriend was looking for. Bunch of my friends who are into the minimalist-grungy look really dug it, so I guess that's a win.
He does not like when I take his picture.
Now my current project, which I'm about to finish probably tonight, is Mary Jane Mucklestone's Muckle Toque. I already shared on Ravelry my previous experience making this lovely toque, which I turned into a gigantic slouchy hat that could only fit someone with dreadlocks. I gave up on hats for a while after that episode.
But NOW (!) I'm almost done and it's looking quite good! Size is perfect. I just have to shape the crown, add the pompom and block it. I used the Berroco Vintage Worsted yarn. It's got a beautiful feel to it and the tones come out great.
We're going up north to the country this weekend and we'll be taking some lookbook photos. FUN FUN FUN!
