Hio!! We have another question about BPD if it's okay.
We have heard people say that in BPD, you have random mood swings, and they NEED to be without reason. Like, nothing happened but I'm feeling pissed off, for example. Is that true?
Another thing is that we've seen things saying that BPD emotions are very discernible. Do you always know what you're feeling? Or do you sometimes not know too?
Also, do you have a, per se, grey area for emotions?
That's all, sorry for the rant, and feel free to ignore!
Hi, again. Thanks for coming to us with these questions, we really like questions. Keep them coming 👍
The emotional swings in BPD aren't so much without reason as they are triggered by very minimal things. The majority of my swings are caused by very minute things such as my boyfriend saying a word in a very specific way, or the most prominent trigger: Predictability & repetition.
But it's true that sometimes swings can occur without reason, though in my personal experience that is a minority of the time, or at the very least 50/50. I should take this moment to say that's going to be different for everybody, it might be never for you, or vice versa.
BPD emotions on their own, without comparing them to anybody else, aren't really discernible. At least that's not the word I would use.
However, if you compare emotions in BPD to neurotypical folk, then yes, BPD emotions are discernible, only because borderline emotions are intense. I can always tell what I'm feeling in relation to an emotional swing, but otherwise I'm usually pretty neutral on that.
I'm not sure what you mean with grey area, please elaborate on that and I'll answer you afterwards :)
