It’s been a while.

Did you miss us?

So, some of you may have noticed the blog is pretty empty now. I had a lot to deal with when I disappeared, but now I’m back! I cleared out all my old posts because I just wasn’t proud of them anymore. It felt inconsistent, incomplete… I can do way better.

You can probably guess where this is going.

Bum bum bum… Revamp!

Please allow me to be your host tonight.

To your left, you’ll see the establishment’s prized dealer, Edge ( #bpedge ) He can catch a cheat a mile away! He’s impressive, but try not to get too close for your own sake. Don’t tell him I said this, but he always seems to be in such a bad mood.

At his table, you’ll find one of our regulars. Amias ( #bpamias ) can’t seem to lose. He hasn’t been caught cheating yet, so maybe he’s just really lucky? If you ask me, I’d say he probably annoys Edge so much that he can’t focus.

Behind the table games, you’ll see our bar. The bartender, Jackpot ( #bpjackpot ), makes the best cocktails you’ve ever had. Well, that is, if you like your alcohol over-poured…

Oh! Near the high rollers you can see the owner, Gambit ( #bpgambit ). He’s a sight to see, but there’s a lot of power behind those charming smiles. Try not to get on his bad side.

Ack! Look behind you, but don’t make it obvious! By the sportsbooks. That’s Double Down ( #bpdoubledown ), the debt collector. He’s way too friendly for a guy that executes people as a job… Freaky!

The Medicine and its Fatal Side Effects

I spun a wheel to decide who to do next T^T.... I will forever be indebted to anyone who sends me an ask

TWs: Implied murder, death, mentions of throwing up, mentions of alcohol, misogyny from side characters, and other general yandere behavior. If this content upsets you, do not continue.

Control. 

Edge would do anything to have some sort of control in his life. Real control. Something more than the walk to the bank to pull out another loan for a flat tire he can’t afford to be dealing with. He’d even gotten a write-up for being late from Gambit himself. The memory still made goosebumps rise under his skin.

But alas, Edge has nothing but a meager paycheck for a job he can’t leave without risking the very real possibility of death. Hell, he lost his name when his pen hit that paper. An idiot signed that contract with Gambit, and Edge was just unlucky enough to be the older version of that idiot.

He was conceived in a lab. Only knew the needles and tests for his entire life until he was stable enough to operate without collapsing or screaming in agony, which is what he tells himself every time he remembers what a dumbass he used to be. He was simply dealt the worst possible hand.

His self-pity started turning to bitter resentment the third time he’d dealt for Amias. For the first two, the succubus had been quiet. He won a few hands, then moved on to whatever else he did with his time. The third time, Edge supposed Amias’d been talked into too many drinks to keep up the silence.

The guys at the table had been fooling around. Three of them were friends, so the area was much too loud for Edge’s personal taste. The sooner they lost, the sooner he could stop having to deal with them. The fellow with fox ears and a voice he tried to force was complaining about his wife for most of the game.

“--She was whining all evening when I said we’d be hitting up the casino tonight,” He scoffed, waving a hand dismissively as the other held his cards. One of his buddies chuckled.

“Psh. What, is she mad she’s not here to blow the budget on her fruity little cocktails?” Another snorted. He had two extra pairs of arms.

Edge didn’t speak, though he was grinding his teeth behind his lips. He’d have to deal with retraining if he got another write-up for bitching a customer out.

“You budget for this stuff?” The pink-haired man muttered, his voice staggering like he’d hardly had a conversation in his life. Probably just the alcohol, but it grated on Edge’s exhausted ears nevertheless. “Minimum is only fifteen here.”

Only fifteen? A thread snapped in Edge’s brain. Fifteen dollars is what Edge had left after paying his damn rent when he got lucky. Fuck, Edge didn’t have fifteen dollars in his wallet right now.

He clocked out even more pissed than usual that evening, and It only got worse the more he had to deal with the succubus. Casual comments about money like it was fucking nothing, and what’s worse, the guy kept winning. Edge couldn’t figure out how the fuck he was cheating.

That was years ago. To date, he hates everyone who spends a dime at his own personal hell, though his customer service grin remains unwavering until the second he leaves the building yet again.

Things change too much.

He didn’t like the feeling that began filling his chest around you. The contrast made him sick. Literally, in his case. He had to excuse himself to vomit more times than he can count just from the thudding of his own heart in his ears.

He tried to treat it like anger, for a while. He became dismissive. Hoped you’d disappear, along with his own vile affections, if he was aloof enough.

And yet, it festered. The feelings combined into a confusing mass of acid that left him unsure about anything he did where you were involved. It was another thing that was unfairly shoved into his lap. Another thing that was utterly out of his control.

Worse and worse and worse. How much could he humiliate you? Subtly moving your drink closer to the end of the table until it tumbled into your lap at the slightest nudge, followed by an exasperated sigh. A precisely placed adhesive on your bar stool when you left it briefly to use the restroom, then a condescending laugh at the tear in your clothing afterward.

Things went too far when he slipped something in your drink. He justified it to himself however he could. He didn’t actually do anything to you. Your friend took you back to your hotel room, you were fine.

He felt bad, but not for the reasons he should. Why did your friend get to be kind to you while he was stuck trying to fight the sickness you gave him?

Disgusting. Disgusting. Disgusting.

It wasn’t his fault when that friend went missing. They were sick and he was curing it, since they didn’t seem to be willing to do what they had to. It wasn’t his fault. The blame was all yours.

But please, hate him for it. He’d much prefer it that way.

hello my evil best friend who i loathe and have a very long and storied rivalry with….

While everyone at the casino is employed in the sense that they work there and are paid, they’re all actually under contract. The contract pretty plainly states that Gambit is going to hunt them down if they stop working there also.

Working conditions are fine overall. They have insurance coverage and PTO and sick time, but their wages have to be formally negotiated. Edge isn’t nearly as bold as DD or Jackpot are, so he has the lowest pay.

Also, Gambit just doesn’t like him as much.

How does your character communicate in a relationship?

Edge ♧:

He does communicate in the literal sense. As in, he is verbally speaking to his lover. Tragically, most of his communication is blame and accidental gaslighting.

For example, if he’s feeling jealous, it’s because his lover is being cruel, not because he’s emotionally volatile. It’s their fault he’s angry. And now they’re angry, which is just an unnecessary escalation in his mind. How dare they.

He’ll break down if things go too far. He still won’t admit fault, but he’ll rationalize it to himself just to end the argument and keep his lover. He thinks he’s being the bigger person by doing this.

Amias ☆:

He’s horrible at communication. He can count how many people he’s had a meaningful conversation with on one hand, and it’s really only half a finger. Any turmoil is bottled up to save the only relationship he’s ever had, or expressed in an accidentally passive aggressive manner.

His communication is touch-based most of the time. He’s jealous? He grabs your arm and pulls you away from the source. He’s feeling ignored? He shoves his hands under your clothes. He’s horny? Already grinding on you.

Fights never get far with him. He’s not ashamed to cry and wail and beg on his knees, and he’s probably already forgotten what the fight was about by the time his tears dry.

Edge ♧:

While he’s insecure about his financial status, it’s actually more troublesome for him that he was born human. People born with no “abnormal” traits are considered weak, are frequently targeted, and don’t often live very long. It’s only due to the experiments he was subjected to that he’s confident enough to be out in public at all.

Amias ☆:

The obvious answer is that he’s a virgin. Being an incubus and also an incel is one of the most embarrassing things he can imagine, and it’s his actual life. Especially because he’s tried to lose his virginity. Often.

Also, just an inch less than that, he doesn’t want any potential partners to know about his dad period. He’s worried he’ll immediately lose them to him.
