You mentioned Dark Ace's dad, can we get more lore about him?

Behold, a dad!

The genes literally went copy and paste with this family, Dark Ace is this man's spitting image. The only difference is that dad is softer and didn't have any scarring (the art is rather old and an AU version of him)

Some bullet points, because his full bio got rather long lol. That'll be below the cut.

His name is Solomon Gryphus (no middle name) and he grew up as an orphan. One of his parents at least managed to give him his first name, whereas 'Gryphus' is one of many common 'orphan names' given to kids whose families couldn't be located. There's quite a few Gryphuses out in the world but it's very unlikely for them to all be related by anything other than name.

He's a pacifist, a huge contrast to both his first wife and his son (both very notorious and vicious Talons)

Growing up, he wanted a large family with a lot of kids, but ended up being happy with just two children.

Dark Ace got the thin and lanky genes from him (copy and paste), but Solomon slouched a lot and wore turtlenecks which made him seem a lot smaller and softer.

Had at least a bit of military training, but a disability meant he was unable to become a Talon. Could still punch someone pretty hard if he wanted to though.

Met both his wives because of sudden, inconvenient nosebleeds.

Dark Ace's dad was called Solomon Gryphus. He was a war orphan who never knew his parents (abandoned as an infant) and was raised in first a Cyclonian orphanage (technically two, the first burned down), then a Talon Academy where he met the woman who would become his wife and Dark Ace's mum; a fierce-tempered woman called Andromeda Avadat, eventual captain of the Talon squadron known as the Red Harts. Solomon had a blood clotting disorder that left him unable to become a Talon himself, so he became a teacher instead. He taught history and had a passion for folklore and archaeology, the former of which he passed down to his son.

Solomon was a stay-at-home dad who wrote research papers and the occasional fictional novel for extra income while he looked after his son. Unfortunately the books didn't get very widely published due to paper shortages across multiple territories, but a few of them do still get read out by radio shows and he got paid a little bit for the time. He was fluent in two languages (Common Atmosian and Cirrol, the language of Cyclonia) as part of his job and passed this knowledge onto Dark Ace. The same went for cooking. Sol was an alright cook before getting married, but providing for his family motivated him to get better and he got his son involved once the kid was old enough to hold a wooden spoon.

Solomon was never able to find out who his parents were, but by the time he started his own family he was content in not knowing. Though he believed at least one of his parents might have originally come from Xerxxes because of how he looks: red eyes and dark hair are common traits in both Cyclonia and Xerxxes due to Xerxxes having been originally a Cyclonian colony, and though Solomon and his son are usually quite pale thanks to Cyclonia's clouded skies, father and son both tan extremely quickly in hot and sunny weather.

After his wife was killed in action, he accepted a job working for (at the time) a small-time celebrity archaeologist called I.J. Domiwick that required him to relocate to northern Free Atmos territory, and he took his son with him. Unfortunately his contract was cut short a few months in because Domiwick's benefactors found out he'd hired a Cyclonian and threatened to cut funding if he didn't fire Solomon. This left him and a six-year-old Dark Ace stranded in unfamiliar territory, and border disputes meant he couldn't afford the trip home.

After struggling to find a new job in the Free Atmos (xenophobia runs rampant and Atmos doesn't exactly have a diversity quota in any industry), Solomon managed to land a job tutoring the daughter of a very, very rich and influential Sky Knight. That Sky Knight was Harrier.

Aurora was a five-year-old terror who got bored easily and tormented previous tutors, and her father was at his wit's end. He didn't care that his last resort was the husband of a dead Talon, he just wanted someone who was willing to sit down with his daughter for longer than thirty minutes and try to teach her something. Yes, yes, of course you can bring your child along, please help me!

Solomon adapted to teaching Aurora very quickly (the girl was autistic, easily bored, understimulated, and her previous teachers struggled to adjust their teaching styles to her needs), and became friends with Harrier and his wife as a result. Meanwhile six-year-old Dark Ace was making friends with Aurora while being taught alongside her. Harrier and his wife helped Solomon get a few more of his books published in later years.

When Dark Ace was around 9-10 years old, Solomon met Gail, a fellow teacher, and started dating her. They eventually got married and when Dark Ace was 13 they had a surprise second child, Ashe. Solomon, having managed to regain control of his finances back on Cyclonia, went back to being a stay-at-home dad so Gail could focus on her career. Solomon liked career-oriented women apparently. By this point the family had permanently settled down on Terra Xerxxes, which is located right on the border of Cyclonian territory and used to be considered part of the Empire before the war.

Solomon went missing after his 17-year-old son, now a Storm Hawk, was captured behind enemy lines. He was last seen boarding a ship to Cyclonia with plans to try negotiating for his son's freedom, though it's unclear if he was ever successful as his son was independently rescued by the Absolute Zeroes. It's believed that the ship Solomon took to Cyclonia got shot down into the Wastelands. He was 40 years old and his body was never found. Six months later, Dark Ace betrays the Free Atmos and kills the Storm Hawks.

As a very big fan of the Magical Girl genre, I couldn't resist.

I apologize for taking so long on this. I decided to go full-out except for background cuz I couldn't figure out what to do. (Also, if anyone wants me to do the Storm Hawks as Magical Girls probably need to wait some time or commission me for faster results.)

Any funny stories with your talons?

Besides Ravess and Snipe's usual antics?

Several years ago, the locks on a bunch of the pegasus stalls broke and I got to watch the cavalrymen chase all the untrained colts - who were having tons of fun playing chase with the humans - around the stronghold grounds.

Countless, countless stories of Talons overestimating how much chilli powder they can actually handle in meals and thinking they can impress me by testing their spice tolerance. Especially the newer recruits.

I don't go swimming when the depth pool is busy anymore because too many people have swum right into the sides of the pool while staring at me.

Some idiot (that wasn't Snipe) thought they could train the Citadel cats into specialised attack animals. The cats put the dumbass in his place very quick.

And that guy who thought it was a great idea to turn weather equipment into mines? Oh I have many, many stories about him.

Where is your favorite cuisine from? (Terra atmos, Terra Cyclonia etc.)

Cyclonia, it's the taste of home.

But that's too easy an answer, so to give you the runner-ups, I also like Saharr cuisine for how they cook their food. Bogaton is a close second, they make really good meat jerkies.

I have not eaten raptor meat. That sort of thing is ritualistic for them and I'm too much of an outsider to be invited to partake in it.

Although I have to admit I'm curious.

Is red a common eye color?

It is, yes. Supposedly it's as common as it is on Cyclonia because of the massive deposit of firebolt crystals at the Terra's core. Extended exposure to the energy of the crystals throughout multiple generations caused the eye colour to become a dominant genetic trait. Red eyes are a dead giveaway for Cyclonian ancestry, and you'll find them in Terras we've had long-standing relations with such as Karkinos and Xerxxes. Free Atmos types like to be really rude whenever they see it.

Unfortunately, it also counts as ocular albinism, which usually leads to far- or short-sightedness and light sensitivity. Prescription goggles are a very common piece of equipment.

I got it from my father's side of my family. I'm practically a mirror crystal copy of him. Crappy eyesight and all.
