With current Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United, there has been a lot of speculation around whether the Blades will be able to get him back at Bramall Lane next season. However, recent reports seem to suggest that they are looking at alternative options. According to Turkish media outlet NTV Spor, Sheffield United have made a €20m (£17.9m) bid for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and are ready to give him a five-year deal at the club. Chelsea have been linked to Cakir as well, so it looks like the Blades could have a battle on their hands if they desperately want to sign the goalkeeper. Henderson has been a great goalkeeper for two seasons now at Bramall Lane, with the 22-year-old’s quality reflected in his tally of 13 clean sheets in the Premier League this season and only 27 goals conceded, per Transfermarkt, prior to this evening’s clash against Leicester. However, whether they can sign him either on another loan or on a permanent basis is out of their hands, as it is Manchester United’s prerogative to decide what they want to do with Henderson. This season in the Turkish Super Lig, Cakir has made 31 appearances for Trabzonspor and conceded 34 goals whilst keeping four clean sheets, per Transfermarkt. Although his concession tally is respectable, his lack of clean sheets is slightly worrying. The 24-year-old has represented Turkey twice, meaning that he has international pedigree, but he would have big boots to fill if he is Henderson’s successor at Bramall Lane. Also, a fee of nearly £18m is a significant one for a goalkeeper unproven in England, so it might be best for the Blades to look elsewhere.
