Apollo's gifts for Branchus.
Okay, I’m sorry (not really) but Hyacinthus x Apollo is so boring.
Tragic flower twink dies, Apollo mourns, cue eternal sobbing and petals on the wind...yeah yeah, we've seen this movie. It’s all very “paint me like one of your Delphic boys” and zero fun.
But Apollo and Branchus?
Apollo shows up and Branchus just thinks he’s a fine slice of honey and kisses him. No build-up. No preamble. No ‘let’s play discus and accidentally doom the twink’. Powerful. Zero hesitation. I would trust Branchus to get things done in any myth.
That man had priorities and taste. I can’t take it seriously and that’s why I love it. It’s just “damn okay then” and Apollo’s like “cool, you’re my prophet now.” It’s so unserious it loops back around to being iconic.
Branchus: I’m proud to identify as morosexual.
Branchus: I’m attracted to dumbasses and dumbasses exclusively.
Apollo: *accidentally milks a male goat in his attempt to seduce Branchus*
Branchus: *already taking off his clothes* Apollo, you’re so fucking stupid.
I love how both Sparta and Miletus celebrated Apollo having a boyfriend.
Sparta -> Hyacinthus (had a festival called the Hyacinthia, where they celebrated their love, mourned Hya's death, and celebrated his resurrection to Olympus)
Miletus -> Branchus (built a temple dedicated to Branchus & Apollo, even naming it after the kiss Branchus gave Apollo)
so cute <3
We're here too...
Well now it's Pride Month, you know what that means?
Branchus, Hymenaeus, Phorbas, Hippolytus of Sycion, Cyparissus, Helenus, Admetus, Adonis: that we'll get more fan content with Apollo?
Tumblr: no
Branchus, Apollo's beloved Prophet (the priest that disappears too ig)
Also I was expirementing with colors lol
Oh and here's more
is it just me or is Apollo’s other lovers that lack a tragic ending less known? For example, we all know of Daphne and Hyacinthus, but what about Branchus? Most of us don’t know that one and I can’t help but wonder if it’s because most of the myths surrounding Apollo is usually about how tragic and sad his love life is with both his male and female lovers.
