New Thing

“What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done and there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecc 1:9ESV

As I’ve pressed my heart into the Lord, about 2018, I sense Holy Spirit saying, “a new thing.” For some, a new thing would be wonderful. Others will find a ‘new thing’ difficult. Our baby nephew found his ‘new baptismal thing’ difficult and unpleasant. Out of snuggly pajamas, into a white shirt and necktie— difficult— brought screams akin to torture. Looking at a crowd of people brought screams of fear.

Baby Christians may become fearful in a ‘new thing’ from heaven, not recognizing what’s going on. We supposedly mature Christians may have difficulty recognizing God’s ‘new thing,’ as well.

Solomon said there was nothing new under the sun. Yet, God did a vast ‘new thing’ mere generations after his death. A babe was conceived of a virgin by Holy Spirit. Lived and died as a man. Was resurrected as God with us. There’s no possibility of having something greater than Jesus’ coming to the world. What’s coming won’t be that grand! We all know Jesus will return someday, I don’t think anytime. But I do believe His Holy Spirit is coming in a way different than anything done before.

In 1969, after three days of fasting and prayer, Mom received a promise from God for me. Isa 43:19NLT “For I am about to do a brand-new thing. …I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert!” She named this promise a“new thing,” What “brand-new thing” did God do? My heart was the wilderness. He brought me a bulldozer named Louis. Mom questioned, if Lou was truly the ‘new thing’ God intended. Yet Lou was who helped create a pathway to God. If you’re looking to find the Debbie Mom prayed for— she's unrecognizable today. Not all the pathway construction by this bulldozer was comfortable. Comfortable and uncomfortable both were ordained by God.

I share about the ‘new thing’ God did in my life because not always is the ‘new thing’ comfortable. We humans dislike discomfort. We’re all about comfort. Imagine, mother and child go through discomfort during the birthing process. Without the discomfort, both baby and mother would die. Some pain is very important to growth.

There’s a new move of power coming to earth. To be ready and sharp on our toes, we’d best remove all religious lens from our lives; be in prayer, fasting, studying God’s Word; using the spiritual gift of discernment. “The secret things belong to the Lord our God but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever…” Deut 29:29ESV. If the experiences of 2017 in my life are indicative of growth— spiritually, I should grow in a giant. Has your 2017 contained conditions to promote growth into a new thing? Don’t be one like Solomon saying nothing new is under the sun. Let us look together toward a ‘new thing’ in the next year coming. Unless, that is, you want to remain in the past year’s pain. It’s your choice. You choose.

PRAYER: Abba Father, we look forward to the new thing coming. My prayer is that I won’t miss the truth and think of it as a hindrance to life. Help all of us stay close enough to You to know what You’re doing, in Jesus’ name I pray.
