From a future No Dominion ficlet""An unseasonably warm spring morning saw the whole clan linger at the river’s edge that morning. None were eager to start the day when the chill had faded from the air. It brought the children out in all of them, to feel warm breeze and sunshine on their skin after the harsh winter. Duro squawked as Agron and Gerlind pulled him down under the water again. He emerged from the cool water, sputtering and laughter and waving at the two Syrians standing in shock at river bed.Nasir and Elill stood wrapped in their cloaks eyeing the whole clan with suspicion. “Come to the water,” Duro called. “Wash the dirt of the night off.”Nasir and Elill exchanged a look before they both shook their heads. “Something should be done about those two,” Gerlind said. She laughed as Duro piled her hair on top of her head. “It is not that cold.”“Elill had a heated pool in his temple,” Duro explained. “Nasir abhors the cold in general.”“They will never learn to live with it if you keep coddling them,” Gerlind declared. Duro shook his head at the look in her eyes. “Don’t you dare,” he warned.She was already to the edge before he could stop her. He couldn’t hear her words, though they were enough to make both Nasir and Elill take a step back. They backed into Uncle’s chest who grasped their shoulders and laughed so loud it startled the birds in the trees. “We will pay dearly for this,” Agron said.Duro nodded as he watched Duro and Elill drop their cloaks. Freya’s whistle was the loudest as they both tugged off their breeches and allowed Gerlind to pull them to the water.“Something needs to be done about the old witch,” Duro said.
