Instead of focusing on the ways in which The Hunger Games movie is ~whitewashed~ and ~perpetuating prejudices in hollywood~ and ~oppressing WOC~, let's focus on how it's ironic that it's been turned into a movie at all. The Hunger Games is a commentary on the evils of excessive media coverage and consumerism. Think about the way the author portrays the antagonists: as people who buy things they don't need and eat food after they're full and turn a horrible massacre of 23 children into entertainment. And millions of people read this story again and again, then go out and buy the branded products that they don't need and shove popcorn in their mouths while they turn a horrible massacre of 23 children into entertainment. We're engaging in the exact behavior the original story condemns. I don't care who was cast in the movie. There never should have been a goddamn movie in the first place. The only social discussion that we should be having is the one concerning the fact that the message of this book has obviously fallen on deaf ears.
