honestly my biggest gripe with rose and eddie's friendship is that there wasn't any conversation about spokane.... makes me hate the time jump between fb and sk too bc you're really telling me that the first time rose saw him afterwards she wasn't begging Eddie to forgive her for not being able to save mason and he responds with the exact same thing??????
I remember there's a line in SK (can't remember where, pls quote it when you get to it!) where rose "realises" that her and Eddie should have been thrown in therapy the second they got back. This is like at least a month after spokane. A MONTH and you only JUST realised how fucked up Eddie is by all of this??????????
and the thing is, this realization rose makes is when eddie talks about spokane with lissa. not rose, but lissa because she wants to matchmake eddie and rose together.
i don't know if it's because of the guardian mentality that all this trauma is expected and they should never put themselves first, but it is weird that rose and eddie never talk about what they went through on paper. i'm still close to the 50% of sk but the only person from the spokane group that rose has talked with about the incident was christian, and even so it was very surface level.
this might be an unpopular opinion but i don't really see eddie and rose as "friends", mostly because eddie's screentime in va is so little and the times he shows up, it's barely with him and rose bonding. (for me it feels like eddie became her friend by association with mason). like if you think sydney and eddie, it's without doubt they are friends and i can think of examples where they talk about themselves and their problems to each other. we are shown why they are friends, not told.
who told eddie mason died? was it rose or was she there when he heard the news to comfort him? was there a funeral for mason and did they both attend? or were they too consumed by grief that they skipped? even in the beginning of sk, the way rose recaps spokane and eddie there's no mention to what their reunion was like. she just tells us what he went through and how he is now protecting her from guys. it feels like book 2 happened more than a month ago and their friendship started because of trauma-bonding.
a scene between rose and eddie right after spokane was absolutely needed. it would have made their friendship more memorable.
