I watched ‘The Mastodon in the room’ documentary from Mastodon last night and that really wrecked me. This band means so much to me and they didn’t have to do this but they did. They loved Brent so much despite everything, it’s so devastating to know that they’ll never get to reconcile. Man

Monday, March 30: Mastodon, "All the Heavy Lifting"

R.I.P. William Brent Hinds (1974-2025)

If Crack the Skye was Mastodon going full prog, The Hunter found the Atlanta crew adding a more song-oriented dimension to the textures they introduced one album prior and essentially gave the game away insofar as it announced their intention to aim for something more accessible and reach a larger audience. To that end, “All the Heavy Lifting” was more mid-paced and substantially toned down Troy Sanders’ roar but Brann Dailor still added rolling fills anywhere and everywhere and threw in more than a few awesome double kicks. It was a bit of everything for Mastodon and felt natural even if one could sense the guys were holding back.

Enough time has passed so I can finally share that Chiquito has met the lovely folks at Mastodon. Even got a bonus selfie cuz Brann Dailor was just that awesome

Oh also those charms in that bad he’s holding were extras @victoroni-cheese were kind enough to have made of my OC Kullervo who was partially inspired by their song “Ghost of Karelia” (and even set the voice claim to Brann himself pending his ability to speak Skwisgaar’s dialect in a Russian accent) that sure enough was the second song in their set list!!! 😭
