She’d run hard, trying to wear herself out. To tire herself out so she wouldn’t be so upset by the time she got to Stella’s. It didn’t work. By the time that she made it to the switch’s room, she was still shaking, her eyes stinging and lips pressed together. She wouldn’t cry. No one was going to see her cry, even if it felt like her heart had shattered into a billion pieces inside of her chest.
She tucked her earbuds away and crossed her arms over her belly after knocking, jaw set as she waited for Stella to answer.
