Birdwatchers in North America are certainly familiar with it: the Wood duck. But here, in the north of Germany, seeing them in the wild is always a surprise. The duck seemed quite content and I had to wait a long time for her to lift her head out of her feathers.
Look what I found in a swamp!

A wonderful discovery I
A few days ago, on a bicycle tour, I passed a small pond on the shore of which a pair of mandarin ducks was relaxing. That meant: brake - park the bike and look for a good photo spot. I quickly found it. When I looked to the side, there on the trunk of a tree sat a beautiful wood duck! Both duck species are exotic in my region, so it was all the nicer to see them together here. I spent a long time at this pond and took a lot of pictures ;-).
He’s special and he knows it.
