Munchies

Miller blindly swatted at the nightstand, trying to silence the incessant ringing coming from it. Once he finally managed to grab his phone, he squinted into the bright light of the screen. He let out a groan and answered it, closing his eyes again as he brought the phone up to his ear. “Time zones, Mon.”
“I love you,” Monty said, his voice sounding shaky from the other end.
Miller smiled in spite of his exhaustion. “Yeah, same here. That’s kinda why we’re dating.” He rolled over onto his back and opened his eyes, fixing his stare on the ceiling. “I know it’s only ten in D.C., but it’s 3am in London, and I have class in a few hours.” It was silent on the other end, but Miller’s ears perked up when he heard what sounded like sniffling. “Monty?” he asked, shooting up to a sitting position; any residual sleepiness had vanished. The sniffling turned into loud sobs, and Miller’s free hand curled into a fist. “Are you okay? Did someone hurt you?” he asked, ready to jump on the next flight to D.C. and kick the ass of whoever did this to Monty.
“I’m suh-sorry, I’m sorry,” Monty said between sobs, his words slurring together slightly. “I ju--st luh-love you so much.”
“What’s going on, Monty?”
“I ate two pies... and all the ice cream sandwiches, a bag of Cheetos, the leftover pad thai. One of those tubes of raw cookie dough. A pizza.”
Miller was absolutely speechless. Monty’s munchies were well known throughout their group, but he’d definitely taken it to the next level this time. “Mon--”
“I’m going to die.” The crying started again, though it was slightly less hysterical than before. “I’m sorry. I just needed to tell you. I love you. I’m sorry.” He sniffled again, and Miller could hear the faint sound of Monty blowing his nose. “That king on Wikipedia died, and now my stomach is going to explode just like his, and I’m going to be a weird death statistic. I love you.”
Miller ran his free hand over his face, letting out a loud sigh. “Monty, you’re going to be fine. For a scrawny guy like you, you have the stomach of a freaking viking. You’re not gonna die, I’m gonna get a few hours of sleep before class.”
“But--”
“No ‘buts’. I need you alive when we video chat tomorrow. Okay?”
Monty sniffled on the other end, but he seemed to be calming down a little. “Okay. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
