Excellent question, immediately poignant.

I think he’d miss everything, like the morning routine of pulling back the curtains in his master’s chamber, the way Ciel would rub his eyes, reluctant to leave sleep’s sweet oblivion. Or the nights when sleep was torment, and Sebastian, busy preparing the next day’s meals, could feel the contract mark throb faintly, gradually warming until its glow signaled an emergency upstairs. He’d miss the polite smiles directed at strangers, the ones only he knew were fake, and the rare genuine ones reserved for him alone. He’d miss the icy glares, the constant push-and-pull, and how much his master struggled with his innate goodness yet so willingly embraced cruelty and callousness. He’d miss wondering how that much spite could reside in such a small body, how it settled so naturally against his chest, and how it felt almost weightless when carried in his arms. Most of all, I think he’d miss not feeling this way, being able to move from contract to contract without even remembering the faces of his masters and mistresses, content with an eternity of boredom unfolding before him.
