it’s the middle of the night, flashlight in hand as beth navigates the basement of the hospital. grady is hell on earth, she’d rather be standing in the walker-filled basement with this bandage on her head than up in the dangerous comfortable and food-filled halls getting the medical attention she needs. it sounds crazy, but they’re not good people. she’s being silent this time, knife in hand instead of gun. it’s risky, but it’s all she’s got. she eventually gets out, no one in sight as she gets to the gate. it’s time, she’s free. she just squeezes through the gap in the gate when she sees a person in the light from her flashlight. she freezes thinking it’s someone from grady, but then she realizes she doesn’t notice the girl. there’s a pause before beth joins the girl in the bushes, flashlight turned off in an attempt to be hidden. “you don’t wanna go in there.”
