Neozo’s name is an anagram of Ozone. It’s pronounced ‘Nyo-zo’ however can also be shortened to Neo. Oh, this will be a post on my Alien Aisha headcanons and how they relate to Neo.  TW of sorts - discussions of sentient creatures being owned/abused and brief mention of spiders.

I was originally going to make Neozo a spider aisha, kinda like the Spider Grundo. I decided against it because my partner is severely arachnophobic and that made it harder to research spider anatomy or ask their opinion on the character art/design. Neozo was originally going to have pedipalps instead of barbels.

For brevity’s sake: AA = Alien Aisha The original aishas, not of Neopian origin. Generally have four antennae at birth. NA = Neopian Aisha Aishas as they are known on Neopia. Generally have only two antennae at birth.

I settled on the headcanon that all Neopian Aishas are crossbreeds of Alien Aishas and Neopian species. This means in my headcanon Alien Aishas have spliced their own DNA with multiple Neopian species. There can be aisha hybrids with almost every Neopian species, and they were usually created with a set purpose. No hybrid holds a rank approaching that of an AA, but NAs can get the closest. The Hybrid Program takes place on an AA mothership (name unpronounceable by Neopian standards) in orbit of Neopia, not the Virtupets Space Station. The Neopian Aisha is believed to be an aisha/wocky hybrid. AAs have skin/fur similar to a velvet gecko or sphynx cat, but NAs have fur that is similar in texture to wocky/cat fur. Neopian Aishas’ tails are also thicker than AA tails and NAs move with a wocky-like grace not shared by many of their AA relatives. They also weather Neopia’s gravity better than AAs. They are the oldest and most refined hybrids. Generally they receive a better quality education than other hybrids. “Hybrid” is a blanket term for any non-AA/non-NA engineered by AAs. Sometimes the term “Crossbreed” is used, though this is considered derogatory by some. They are lab-born and do not have parental figures. They are generally ‘raised’ in classes of up to 50 hybrids to a tutor until they reach maturity. Most will never know the identities of those whose genetic material they were grown from. They are usually placed with similar hybrids and entire classes are often the commissioned property of an AA. Unfortunately they generally are not socialised well and may have identity/social issues. 

After the Neopian Aisha one of the more common hybrids are aisha/acaras - they hybridize easily and the acara ancestry makes them adept in the water as well as on land. Sometimes called Aisharas they are versatile, obedient soldiers. AAs use Aisharas as pawns - they don’t care about Aishara safety, so they can afford to just throw as many Aisharas at a problem as they have available. Physically Aisharas look similar to NAs however they have four ears/two antenna and either no tails or very short stubby ones. Oddly, there are no aisha/grundo hybrids. The first (and only known) aisha/eyrie hybrid broke containment and is missing. The hybridisation program has come to a halt while the AAs try to capture locate them. Details are confidential, but given the size of the hole they left in Lab 31713 they were massive - approaching 3m/9ft tall. The Hybridisation Program has been inactive for about three Neopian years. This has angered some AAs who are fast running out of pawns. Mutant aishas are actually full-blooded alien aishas. Only high-ranking AAs know what exactly happened to mutate them. Neopians believe it has to do with Sloth’s transmogrification, but no AA official has commented publicly. Mutant aishas do not have the same priveleges as other AAs, but they are not usually owned by AAs as (non-NA) hybrids are. AA public opinion on mutants is mixed, ranging from total acceptance to disgust.

Neozo believes he has koi DNA, but his low rank does not allow him to review his own files. He was raised with Aisharas and can stay underwater for a long time, even surviving depths that would crush some others. His barbels are sensitive sensory organs which allow him to navigate even muddy or dark water. Unfortunately he has had little opportunity to swim since an incident that cost him several of his limbs. He’s not even sure if his prosthetics would be alright submerged in water. He is no longer ‘employed’ by the AA who commissioned him, as he is considered damaged goods. It is a sensitive subject.

Tyrannian politics, like its landscape, is volatile and harsh. According to Tyrannian rule leadership is decided in battle, with the strongest to challenge the Chief and win in the arena being declared the new Chief.  This means that leadership changes hands easily and more frequently than some other parts of the world, however the title of Chief is not as clear as it seems.

A Chief’s main responsibility it to defend their people and to lead in times of war. The Chief is a warrior and protector, not a politician, and relies heavily on their chosen Advisor for guidance outside of their expertise. Tyrannia’s current Chief is a chomby named Thunderstone, and his Advisor Pelt the pteri has actually held their position as Chief’s Adviser for several generations of Chief. While any Tyrannian citizen may challenge for the role of Chief, only the Chief can choose an Advisor. Usually a Chief picks a new Advisor when they become Chief - Pelt’s situation is not the norm, she is exceptional.

Thunderstone is a large male chomby and has been Chief for just under a year. His body language and mannerisms are sharp and purposeful. He is a herbivore that moves like a predator. Thunderstone’s voice is low and gravelly, rumbling like an earthquake, but his words are generally positive. He is a believer in motivating people with praise and support, and enjoys play-fighting with children and training other young warriors. He is one of the more popular Chiefs in recent years, though he is less popular amongst grarrls. Some think he is more of a celebrity than a leader and there are mumblings about him being too soft, but as of yet no one has stepped up to test him. If you plan to challenge him, do yourself a favour and avoid his tail.

Pelt has held her position as Chief’s Advisor for near to a decade, and with good reason. The pteri is fiercely intelligent, quirky and dedicated to preserving Tyrannia’s culture even as she works to improve Tyrannian technologies. Pelt has worked with other nations in the past and makes no secret of the fact anything she develops is free to all who ask. Some nations consider this comical, but those who have been paying attention have realised her inventions are less primal than her chosen aesthetic. She is currently working on a battery that can be used as a power source that harnesses Tyrannia’s most abundant natural resource; sunlight. The omelette battery was going nowhere. Pelt’s family owns Tyrannia’s museum, where they showcase their history alongside their future.

There is no police force in Tyrannia, and for better or worse most disputes are handled personally. It can be difficult to hold someone accountable for a crime without considerable evidence. Disputes can be brought to the Chief and Advisor directly on the Hearing Days (twice a week). If the Chief does not come to a decision on the day the dispute is aired they can choose to either consider until the next Hearing Day or defer judgement to their Advisor. Tyrannia does not imprison those it finds guilty of a crime, but instead sends the guilty party to work bettering the lives of others. The idea is that they improve things as much as they previously damaged matters. The work varies on the guilty party’s abilities and infraction. An elderly person guilty of theft might get “Omelette duty” (supervised - guarding the omelette, keeping it clean, handing out pieces to people) but a violent repeat offender may be exiled entirely. Interestingly, Thunderstone has never sentenced anyone to death - which is an option by Tyrannia law.

And that’s all I have for Tyrannia so far :D You know I had to have a chomby! A grarrl would be good to, but it felt too obvious. Pelt was a fun addition too - I feel like people don’t think of pteris as Tyrannian as much as grarrls or chombies.

Anyway, I’ll try to not spam you with headcanons. I just wanted to get one out for Tyrannia, as it gets kinda neglected. I will be tagging these posts as #Breaking the Lore so you can blacklist that tag if you’re uninterested.
