So I'm just posting Breine's new Backstory here since I already put it up on her TH as well. Its...the same just with details changed and parts edited to make sense.
It's mostly just her life before the start of ARR, its cringe but it makes me happy okay?
Note: This OC is, for the most part, a Self-Insert. Though she has a backstory and parentage that was made to fit in with the world of FFXIV, her albinism and parts of her personality are made to directly reflect me. She is an Idealized version of me and some of her talents are things that were shown to be true about the Warrior of Light in game, and aren't talents I myself hold. Also her name is not my name as I like to give my Self Inserts names that fit the setting. Also I do not use the phrase outright when writing her backstory, but she is also Autistic, because I am as well.
Breine's father hailed from The Black Shroud. He was a Duskwight who had joined the ranks of the Wood Wailers to try and make life easier for his family. He had to flee, when he refused to punish a young Duskwight for stealing food to feed his family. Her mother hailed from the Holy See of Ishgard, she was a lowborn woman whose own mother and father was taken into custody for Heresy. Breine's Grandmother was set free, aquitted of her crimes though her husbands confession, Breine's mother had fled to La Noscea by then, and they'd never see each other again.
Her parents met near the border between the Shroud and Coerthas, and fled for Vylbrand together, where they would settled in small unnamed fishing village before eventually getting married. Her mother put her weavers' skills to good use, mending the clothing and fishing nets of the villagers to earn coin. Her father put his Lancers skills to use as a guardsman.
Though Breine is of mixed Ishgardian and Duskwight lineage, she primarily resembles her mother, though her first and last name are culturally Duskwight. Breine herself was born with Albinism, though many of her more albinistic features don't stand out much when compared to other Elezen. Still, her ultra sensitivity to light and poor eyesight are a product of her alblinism. She is legally blind, and while she wears corrective glasses, they don't completely correct her vision.
Breine was seen as a bit odd by other kids her age; she kept to the shade and used salves and oils to keep her skin safe from the sun. When she refused to wear her glasses, she would stumble and run into things. She also had a hard time understanding when other kids didn't want her around her. She was an anxious, overly polite child, and often she would try to tag along with other children only to be ditched or subtly made fun of. Eventually she took to reading books bought for her from traveling merchants, and traded socializing for immersing herself in tales of adventure, romance and intrigue. Stories about legendary heroes and history also caught her eye, she loved stories about Warriors of Light especially.
When she turned sixteen, her life slowly started to take a turn. She got a job working with the fishermen of the village, and to celebrate, her mother gifted her an earring, part of a matching pair. "My mother gave me this," her own mother had said, "I pass it to you, in hopes that you take me with you were ever you go."
That same night, a meteor shower could be seen in the skies above her home. She crept out of her home to watch it, and soon found herself passed out in the grass. She saw visions, events she couldn't wholly understand. Visions of meteors, and fire, and a voice... She woke up not long after the shower ended, and fled back home. She began to have dreams after that night, and on one occasion, she black out; and recalled a moment from a traveler's past as if from his own memory. On her parents' request, she opted to keep this a secret.
Things were the same for a decade. As the children of the village grew up, they'd take on jobs or leave to help bolster Vylbrand's defenses as the threat of Garlean Invasion grew. Breine fished, and worked and read. Then the Calamity happened, Dalamud was pulled from the sky, and the landscape of the realm changed drastically. The ground shook, and her small village had the misfortune of being hit hard.
The rough seas forced the fishing boats to return home to dock, but instead of a village they found nothing but rubble. Homes had fallen into the sea, or had been crushed by debris, and not many had made it out of the wreckage alive.
Both of her parents were included among the causalities. All at once she'd lost it all, and it was made worse by another vision, one where she watched her parents helping others flee to safety, only to lose thier lives. The survivors mourned, and buried their dead, her among them then they slowly began to scatter, hoping to find work and a new home now that the dust of the Battle of Carteneau had settled and heralded in the Seventh Umbral Era.
Breine lingered as long as she could, but eventually she left and found work again. Fishing, while it still earned ends meat, was harder now, and boats were slow to get back on the water. For five years she scraped by. She wold fish, and weave, and found herself eventually saving enough gil to make her way to Limsa Lominsa after spending a year working aboard an ocean-fishing ship on and off for a year.
What she didn't expect, was that she'd quite literally 'stumble' into her destiny while hopelessly lost among Limsa's docks. She had been mistaken for an adventurer, and instead of being directed towards the Fisherman's Guild near the Lower Decks, she was instead welcomed into the arms of the Adventurer's guild, and pushed into the role of an Arcanist. She was given a Tome, a Tour of the city, and told to provide assistance to Summerford Farms.
Unable to say 'no', and in desperate need of work, Breine, with unsure footsteps, heeded the call of adventure, unaware of just how important she would be to the survival of the Star...

While one seems rather unhappy about being forcefully woken up by his sibling, The other looks ready to hiss and spit at you much like a certain pentagon earlier when you first got here
