no hate to all the pretty pretty inside work that makes up most of comic art these days, but i offer some of my favorite comic artists with unconventional or street art influenced styles (of varying popularity):

simon bisley — well-known british art legend, his doom patrol and lobo covers are fucking incredible in their grotesque detail

jim mahfood — comic artist, designer, and dj deeply rooted in local independent art/music scenes

brendan mccarthy — surrealist artist behind fever dream character designs like vertigo’s shade, and co-creator of mad max: fury road
