Layne, Demri, Michael and Brett (?) camping in Leavenworth, WA, 1991.
Huge thank you to Brett Simons/Michael Edwards for sending them to Memories of Demri on instagram, and to her for sharing them with us!
“This trip was my first time meeting them. My best friend in high school was in a band and they practiced at NAF [warehouse]. Doc [Dean Hoffner] asked him if he knew anyone who had a truck who would be willing to haul their camping gear, and it turns out that I was the lucky one! I loved their music, so I wasn’t about to turn it down. Anyways, this trip was with two of my friends, one who left before the pictures were taken. Jerry, Layne, Demri and Doc were there. Mike and Sean never showed up. I have more pictures that I still have to find, but these are what I have at the moment.
I only have the one of Jerry because he didn’t want his picture taken. Jerry played guitar and sang Brother and Right Turn from SAP before it was recorded and released. I feel blessed to have had that experience!
. . .
To be honest, for meeting her [Demri] for the first time, she made me feel like I’ve known her forever! She wasn’t shy, and was super cool! Her and Layne both. You could tell they were in love and were super happy! Jerry was cool as well, but didn’t really talk to us as much as Layne and Demri. Those two actually took an interest in me and my friends: where are you from, what do you do, etc. Jerry was more reserved, and I was surprised that he would play and sing around the campfire.”

“This occured right after Alice in Chains played MTV Awards, around when Metallica won, or lost to Jethro Tull maybe. Layne had just left rehab so it was spirographs and sugar for him. Jerry played acoustic around the fire which turned out to be what would be the SAP album 6 months later, except it was Right Turn lyrics to Brother music.”
