CHICAGO
“You always knew Carl was in the room. He had a large aura, a large presence. He changed the dynamic of the room. Sometimes you had to wait for Carl to show up. And if you were waiting for him, and the phone rang,… this was good. Because invariably it was him… saying he was on his way... asking if he could bring something, ‘a cappuccino perhaps?’ Carl was thoughtful, he was fastidious, he was hilarious. And then he would sing.” - Robert Lamm, testimonial from the Carl Wilson 10 Year Anniversary Benefit & Concert Fundraiser (October 19, 2008)
"He is and was my favorite singer of all time, and I am honored to have known and worked and recorded with Carl. There is so many qualities about that voice that I think the deeper you get into it, the more amazing it was. […] I did the Like A Brother album with Carl and our good friend Robert Lamm and I tell you, it was a humbling experience to… I like to think I can carry a tune myself but, boy, to be in the studio daily with that guy, singing harmonies… [...] There was passion and enthusiasm in wherever he could find it. [...] There would be times when he would say, ‘Oh, that’s good.’ He had a default thing where he’d go, ‘Oh, that’s good.’ And it was a very Carl statement, and sometimes it would come out and it would come out a little too quick and maybe things weren’t so good. I’m not sure if he caught himself or if he was just playing off this very Carlism: ‘Oh, that’s good.’ Because he would go, ‘Oh, that’s good. Or, no, it’s bad.’ And he would kind of bat it back and forth with himself. And so we to this day, we’ll kind of reminisce about Carl. ‘It’s good… no, it’s bad,’ and go back and forth. And it’s one of many things that are very, very fond memories." - Gerry Beckley, Carl Wilson - Here And Now
