Boys Basketball Moves to 3-0 with 68-38 win over Christchurch
Walsingham earned its third win of the young season on December 3, defeating state rival Christchurch 68-38. A strong first half by the Trojan defense proved to be the difference, as Walsingham held the Seahorses to a meager 13 points at halftime. The Trojans have been knocked out of the VISAA State Tournament twice in recent years by Christchurch, giving the win extra meaning to the coaching staff and upperclassmen. With the victory, Walsingham improves to 3-0 on the season and 3-0 in Chismer Athletic Complex.
The Trojans out-rebounded the Seahorses 37-25, 27 of which were defensive rebounds that allowed the Trojans to push the break, one of the team’s strengths. Richard Washington (’16) recorded a double-double, leading the Trojans with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Mark Seaman (’16) added 18 points and Kai Brown (’15) scored 14 in addition to a team-high 6 assists. Thomas Chisam (’15) and James West (’17) also had four points apiece, as the Trojan offense - now averaging 73 points a game -- continued its early dominance.
Walsingham will face strong competition this weekend in Richmond when they play in the Trinity Episcopal Tournament. The Trojans will face Amelia Academy on Friday, December 5 at 3:30 PM. Should Walsingham advance, they will face the winner of the Trinity Episcopal-Hampton Roads Academy semifinal on Saturday, December 6. In each of the past two seasons, Walsingham has fallen to Trinity Episcopal in the championship game.
The Varsity Girls Basketball team will also compete at the event, facing Steward School on Friday, December 5 at 2:00 PM.
