New Music for Old Rockers - Oh, Canada Edition
New Music for Old Rockers – Oh, Canada Edition
In all my rushing around for business travel and then vacation travel, I didn’t want to overlook a review of one of my favorite concerts of all time that I attended last week. I was in St. Louis again last week, ready for some live music, so I hit the Ready Room.
It is an intimate venue that holds 750 general admission concert-goers. But surely Canada’s own Strumbellas would easily sell out a…

Vacation Wrap-up
My summer vacation is over. Sadly, I never did solve any of the mysteries at the old lake house we stayed at. However, we did have fun there. I took some time to touch nature.
Rather, nature touched me. And hey, what’s with not shaving when I know I’m going to have my picture taken with a dragonfly on my nose? And what’s with that wild hair from my eyebrow? I wish I had such wild hair on the top…

Brew Review #4 - Sam Adams Summer Beers
Brew Review #4 – Sam Adams Summer Beers
I realized that it is all well and good to review regional Midwest beers in these Brew Reviews because they are delightfully enchanting and humorous to read. But what happens if a reader of this blog outside of the Midwestern USA has their interest in a reviewed regional beer piqued enough by my compelling writing to want to try the beer? That beer may be difficult to find, and the reader may…

Brew Review #3 - Wild Sour Blueberry Gose
Brew Review #3 – Wild Sour Blueberry Gose
I was getting tired of not being able to find a gose (pronounced like ‘Rosa’ except of course with a G rather than the R) beer, which I will remind you is a German sour, salty beer with little to no hoppiness that I fell in love with as described in my Brew Review #1. After some online sleuthing, I decided to try an actual liquor store this time which turned out to be a brilliant way to find a…

Press Release
Brew Review: A Northwest Brewfest & Benefit on April 18, 2018 Seattle, WA, April 1, 2018. Brew Review is a Northwest-centric benefit for the greater good. The Brewfest highlights and benefits union rights, employment rights, small businesses, and breweries who are combining their powers to support a local non-profit—the Unemployment Law Project. 7 Northwest craft breweries are competing to be the crowd favorite: Elysian, Kulshan, Mollusk, Reuben’s Brews, Two Beers, Seattle Cider Company, and Pike. The guests will judge who of this rotating tap of breweries has the most satisfying 4 oz. pour of the 7 tastes included with each ticket. It will also be fun to see who brings home the giant trophy. The silent auction will feature donations from a curated selection of Northwest businesses and non-profits. A few featured items are a pair of Sounders tickets (donated by the best in the MLS), Paramount Theater tickets, a gift certificate to Canlis, and a vacation rental in the Methow Valley. Brew Review also shows off how lawyers, unions, and individuals can make an impact for the greater good. Our sponsors are dedicated, pro-employee law firms: McDonald Hoague & Bayless, Breskin Johnson Townsend, Schwerin Campbell Barnard Iglitzin & Lavitt, and Terrell Marshall Duadt & Willie. Brew Review benefits a great cause: 100% of the funds raised will go to the Unemployment Law Project. The Unemployment Law Project is a non-profit law office that helps people who lost their jobs obtain unemployment benefits while they search for new work. This non-profit makes a little bit go a long way. In 2017, the ULP represented 480 clients at benefits hearings with only 4 staff, 1 fellow, and an army of volunteers. With the Seattle community’s help, the ULP has become the comeback kid of the legal services non-profit community. When the economic downturn happened, the office shrunk to 2.5 employees and continued to serve the entire state of Washington and run 2 offices (in Seattle and Spokane). Through the intrepid leadership of the executive director, a faithful staff, generous volunteers, and Brew Review, the Unemployment Law Project has returned to its stride.
Drinking a beer at Brew Review is more than just a happy hour with your friends; it is joining a community effort to support the unemployed in Washington State. Be there.

BREW REVIEW: ODD13 BREWERY's The I-P-Alien
By Mike Trinidad
Odd 13 Brewing Company, located in Lafayette, Colorado has just unleashed the I-P-Alien! A hazy IPA with some amazing artwork on the outside of the can and some delicious flavors inside.
Taking on that outer worldly feeling, the artwork shows some sort of alien figure and dark colors with neon style highlights. The beer name invokes the style of the movie Aliens on the can and completes the amazing beauty that is this design!
The nose of this beer is very hop forward, which is expect. It smells a bit citrus and hop forward and lets you know that you are about to taste some heavy hops.
As far as the taste goes, you should know that this one is amazingly smooth. A lot of times, an IPA will have a big bite that has a big hop bitterness at the finish that can linger. This beer has such a smooth hop flavor that entices you to drink more to get the blended taste of the space hops used in this beer. Do you like Galaxy, Comet and Apollo hops? If so, this beer was made for you!
The beers color is a lighter gold with a nice amount of haze. Heavily hopped beers can be hazy and this one is no different.
This is currently a limited release for Odd13 Brewing so if you are interested in trying it, make your way to your local liquor store and ask them if they are getting it! Or you can make a stop at Odd13 Brewing Company itself and get at the brewery!
We think you should try it before it sells out and it's GAME OVER MAN!!!
WE GIVE IT A 5 BEERS OUT OF 5!
