Gorgeous condo in the 1900 American Brewery building in Jamaica Plain, MA. It has 1bd, 1.5ba, $739K + $676mo. HOA includes gym, common outdoor space w/grills, deeded underground parking spot, & basement storage unit. (Meh. Should at least have a pool for that amt.)

Cute little brick foyer, then steps down to the unit.

The unit is beautifully decorated, but it does have its own beautiful architectural features w/o the furnishings. The windows, the wainscoting, high ceilings & moldings are stunning.

This is a corner unit, so the ladder has to be going up to the steeple in the front of the building.

This is all they show of it, unless this is all there is. It does look like there are at least 2 chairs up here. It's a wonderful feature, nevertheless.

This ladder rolls clear across the wall for access to the storage cubbies above.

The kitchen cabinets are beautiful wood.

It looks like they had to cover some windows, and most of the brick wall, to build the kitchen.

Fascinating sink in the 1/2 bath.

The bedroom is lovely and it has that beautiful wainscoting, also.

The full bath has a beautiful matching vanity.

So, this is the common area that's included in the exorbitant monthly HOA. Umm, is this a private area? It looks like anyone can walk in.

Caro & Josh’s family home in a former-brewery in rural Dorset, England is a riot of color and pattern. The 3-story house is crammed with art, textiles and quirky vintage finds that make it striking.

I have this sign! It’s French for “crazy dog” - I’ve been corrected- it’s “moody” or “temperamental.” For my dog, the emphasis is on “mental.”

When they moved in there were still kilns on the ground floor. The pub this former brewery served is still next door, but later became a pottery.

They slowly renovated the building starting at the top and worked their way down the derelict property, which had no hot water and only the most basic electricity.

Caro & Josh did the whole house themselves.

The home evolved over a long period of time. Everything is personal and has a story behind it. They had no money when they moved in, so pretty much everything is second hand from junk shops or auctions or donated by friends and family.

Caro’s favorite part of the house is this big fireplace in the living room. 

She is inspired by folklore, heraldry, traditional stories from other cultures and countries from Medici Florence to the Rabari tribe to the Navajo. She loves how the bold bright colors of one culture seep through into another.

The chairs are from a café that had closed down and the table was bought at auction, originally from a choir school.

She loves the ground floor- It is the heart of the home. The layout is in a loop and there are always people there playing music by the fire or chatting at the kitchen table.

One friend called the house, “an artistic mess,” but they think she meant it in a good way!

The kitchen cupboards are Ikea with reclaimed slate from a billiard table and salvaged beech worktops.

They made the upstairs habitable and moved in there, first.

At first they painted all the rooms white, then as they got to know the space they decided on different colors.

Caro owns Corita Rose, a studio where she creates bold and brilliant fabrics. The vibrant fabrics in the home are mostly her designs.

If money were no object, Caro says they would go to all the modern British auctions and pick up lots of beautiful paintings.

The couple that bought this old brewery in Australia wanted to preserve the old brick structure, literally brick-by-brick, but also wanted to combine modern elements.

They dropped the ceiling, covering up a part of the wall, but left original niches. They chose copper accents in the kitchen and bath. The key material really was the existing brick work which was brought back to life via chemical stripping and re-pointing where necessary.

On the way into this room, the walls are lined with closets that cleverly look like they may have been original factory storage.

I like the choice of old brass fixtures and big metal bowls for sinks. Notice the steel beam sticking out of the wall.

Even the stair wells are nicely done. Great choice of a vintage looking fixture, lights the way. The white walls make the building a lot lighter.

Even a brewery has fancy embellishments. I think I would’ve painted around that to bring out the design.

With rooms to spare, the owner has plenty space for a swing. This is the top room in the tower, under what must have been the old chimneys. What fun!  

They certainly put enough closets in the halls.

Love the look of the bedroom- that copper tub.

The shower has a vintage look with subway tiles and a treadle sewing machine base for the sink.

Marie, Albin, and their daughter live in a penthouse apartment in a converted brewery in west London.  Marie immediately loved its open-plan, crisscrossed by metal beams and bolt-studded joists.

Marie’s smart solution to kitchen cabinets. With no walls to screen the kitchen off, the couple wanted it to feel more like a bar area. To emphasize this ‘unkitcheny’ mood, artworks can be displayed against the panels that slide over the kitchen storage and appliances.

Family life is lived in the open and without dividing walls. ‘We have our home gym in one corner of our big living space, and our en suite is only screened off from the dressing area and bedroom by a fabric curtain,’ Marie says.

The apartment’s metal beams are perfect for a hanging chair.

A palette of gentle pastels takes the edge off the metal frame, in their daughter’s room. 

Mirrored wardrobes make the most of the light in this former rooftop office, which has spectacular views across the city.

When the weather is good, Marie heads up to the apartment’s rooftop space for her morning workout, but this home is so flooded with light that it feels as if it’s open to the sky all year round.

This is kinda cool- the Old Stone House Brewery in Minnesota, was re-zoned and converted to a home.

The old loading area was given fancy garage doors. 

The inside was totally redone. 

Room for a bar and pool table.

Lovely home office.

Not too impressed with the kitchen.

Rooftop deck and the view of industrial Minnesota. 

The coolest thing, though, is the original underground tunnel in the basement. The perfect wine cellar.
