Beer Shed Upgrade. After the recent shelving disaster I decided I needed to sort the storage issues that caused it, so I spent whole day clearing all the shit out of the Beer Shed, fixing a new lower shelf, using the unused top bit from my racking in the house and the unused wine rack out of our fridge. All slotted in and reinforced with wood supports. Now I've got plenty of space for more beer and empties storage which leaves the house looking a lot tidier. Phew. Needed doing. Now time for a beer.
Tomorrow (5/4) at 2 PM our Brewmaster, Kenny, will be joining up with the Rockville Brewshed and anyone interested for a hike in the Hayes Forest Preserve! The coolest part is that he'll be searching for inspiration or an ingredient for one of our next brews. After the hike, everyone will head back to True Respite for 15% off beers. Come help us develop our next beer and enjoy some time outdoors with Kenny! Meet at Croydon Creek Nature Center at 2 pm. https://www.facebook.com/events/718848055183152/?ti=cl . . . . #optoutside #brewshed #cleanwater #rockville #beer #mytruerespite #rockvillebeer #mocomade (at Croydon Creek Nature Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw__m8bBEoV/?igshid=yk66s4ck1cb2
So it's not just chocolate you can enjoy from @hotelchocolat but cocoa beer. A present from my wife for my birthday and bought in Shrewsbury. This dark porter style beer has been crafted by Brewshed and brewed with cacao shells (which are usually just discarded by cacao growers) and give the beer extra malty depth. #cocoabeer #cacao #hotelchocolat #brewshed #porter #CraftBeer
Brewshed presents "Battle of the Brewers" at Flatstick Pub
Join us and 23 of Washington’s breweries at Flatstick Pub for an awesome night of beer, putt putt and friendly competition, all in support of clean water & better beer! Here’s your chance to team up with a local brewery in a mini golf tournament to benefit the Washington Wild Brewshed® Alliance. There will be 23 different brewery teams and they each need 1 player from the general public to join their team and help them win this friendly competition in a battle of breweries!
The winning brewery gets to takeover 1 tap at Flatstick for a month and Flatstick will donate $1 for every beer sold from that tap for the whole month. The public player (that’s you!) on the winning team gets a $50 gift card from Flatstick to spend on whatever you like.
Entry fee is only $15 and all of the money goes to Washington Wild to support their nonprofit work to protect wild places and healthy watersheds in our state! Your ticket includes a $5 token to spend on whatever you want at the bar, a round of mini golf and duffleboard in the tournament, and swag from the brewery you are teaming up with.
There will be one ticket available per participating brewery. Once that brewery's ticket has been purchased, that specific brewery is no longer available to pick as a teammate so sign up soon if you want to be partnered with one in particular.
Tournament Structure:
Each team plays one round of mini golf (9 holes) and one round of duffleboard (12 holes). We will then combine the scores of both players to get the total score for the team. The 7 teams with the lowest scores will advance to the playoff round.
Playoffs: All 7 teams choose one player to play the 1st golf hole. The team with the worst score on the 1st playoff hole is eliminated. The remaining 6 teams move on to the 2nd golf hole and their other player plays this time. Again, the worst score is eliminated, and the top 5 continue to hole 3. This will continue on until there is one team left. In an event of a tie for worst score, then all team's advance to the next hole.
Flatstick and all of the Breweries will also be donating $1 for every beer sold that day of the event to Washington Wild! That’s $2 of every pint that goes back to protecting healthy forests and watersheds! Each of the 23 participating breweries will have a keg on tap at Flatstick for the event.
Happy Easter everyone! It's all about rich chocolate beer for us whilst we travel up to see family. Brewshed Hotel Chocolat Dark Cocoa Beer certainly does the job, with their Pale Cocoa Beer hitting a more refreshing note. Any other great Chocolate beers anyone would recommend this Easter? I'm back
Finally after a year of hold ups my brewery is back on track. The brewshed is built and the kit is in. There's still a lot of work to be done but I'm actually brewing now which is awesome. I started in the spring in my smaller shed doing 11 litre batches in a tea urn and using a cool box mash tun. This got me going and taught me a lot as well. Made a few mistakes but don't we all? I'll post some pix of the new setup soon. I'm now using a 55 litre brew pot and BIAB setup. I've also started using the Australian method of no chill cubes instead of a wort chiller as it's way cheaper on water and time. Purchased an Inkbird temperature controller which now controls my fermentation fridge, so all in a pretty sweet setup.
