Happy birthday to the hardest-working and most entrepreneurial of modern drag queens, businesswoman, podcaster, YouTuber, singer-songwriter, author, hotelier, comedian, cosmetics company magnate and RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant – the vivacious Trixie Mattel (government name: Brian Firkus, 23 August 1989)! Mattel’s inspired comedic partnership with the deadpan Katya Zamolodchikova (especially on their web series UNHhhh) makes them the present-day YouTube equivalent of Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz. Pictured: my friends and I visited the shimmering candy-pink Trixie Motel when we were in Palm Springs in April 2025. Here's one of Trixie's wigs displayed in the gift shop (you can see his vintage Barbie doll collection behind it).
