Letterboxd Update and I have watched and rewatched (and remembered) a bunch of movies in the last few days but this is still my top 4
LOL Scary Movie is the 69th movie I logged in on Letterboxd this year. LOL. Fitting.
Ehem.
The Decameron (very underrated I might add, go watch it if you havent but only if you can handle naked bodies, sex, and dying) holds the spot for the longest in the top 4. As you can tell by my pfp, it's a fave!
The 2000s Funny or Die web miniseries Sassy Gay Friend was added
reecently because I rewatched it a lot this early 2026. Comedian and future TV producer Brian Gallivan, being an English major and former teacher, used his knowledge to educate people about literature while at the same time being a source for emotional support (sassy) system with a comedy bite is ....there's nothing to hate about it and irressistible not to enjoy.
Brian Gallivan was recently a cameo in Office Romance and was shipped at the end with (cameo) Tony Hale (which I predicted months before that Tony Hale is gonna get shipped with a man in the movie hahaha). But Office Romance has a half a star rating from me so dont watch it, it's not worth it.
The Holdovers, no question. let's move on because duh. The skating scene while that Cat Stevens song played in the bkg teared me. the whole movie teared me and everyone who saw it what can i say. the 70s movie editing vibe is always beautiful, too.
Stuart Saves his Family is prolly the only in the top 4 with the rotten tomato rating but idc this movie was nostalgic to me, pretty misunderstood, and was released at a bad time of its release year. No one expected and were shocked that a SNL movie can be a tearjerky, down-to-earth, dark comedy family drama, thus its strengths were its downfall. Fortunately, this movie is still watched especially in AA meetings hahaha.
SERIALIZD TOP 5
1-3 Tony Hale can do no wrong. All of his shows are amay-zing so don't ask me why he is my fave and a constant focus in this blog.
Veep, although I don't watch anymore, was award winning for being too real about politics while being too mature, over-exaggerated, and swear-y.
And Andy Barker PI, was a light and delightful comedy detective romp executive-produced by no other than Conan O-Brien.
Yes, do you know that Tony Hale had all in all five no -SIX - shows he starred in? Hency why he's still one of TV's greatests since the 2000s.
The sixth one was more of a web series called CTRL which you can see all short episodes on YT. It was cute, funny, creative, and was his first series with him credited as a producer.
Oh crap I forgot the two Archibald's Next Big Thing shows so he has eight shows total hahaha but I was already an adult when he released them so I have no comment about them other than I did checked it briefly and was relieved it's one of those mid-slow kid cartoon shows ala Kipper and Bluey. Not like one of those that seem to run on sugar and coffee.
So yeah Tony Hale crossed all age markets and you have many options which Tony Hale you want. Do you want the cute talking chicken or the sex-deprived butt showing older man during the black plague in Italy. You have choices, you have CTRL.
For the non-Tony Hale shows...raise your hand if you are also still waiting for The Promised Land S2.
Christian or Religious shows arent really the stuff of critical writing or acting, but this is different. It's actually good. It's like made by Christians who actually watched good shows and decided they want to make their own. Also this is well-casted and you know how Middle Eastern-American actors are always have a hard time being pigeonholed to play terrorists or other stereotypes, pretty sure them playing Bible or historical characters is more dignified. You wont find any blue-eyed caucasians in the main cast.
What really makes a show or a movie that has religious or spiritual themes great is they don't pander to only that group of people. The Promised Land acts like a story book-documentary with a modern twist that is more of a reflection of today.
It shows not teaches. Not overly preachy and doesn't act higher than thou. How they write or how the actors portray their roles, is very welcoming which you can tell from the channel's YT comments that even non-religious people and people from other faiths watch the show. It's this generation's The Veggie Tales.
The Rehearsal's Nathan Fielder, pretty much you gotta expect he comes up with these every couple of years as that man is a genius and there are no lack of inspiration for his content.
Throughout the years as I get older, pretty much new movies and shows don't really interest me mostly because I formed myself a bubble and I already know what my preferences are. Especially with the internet and unlike cable that doesnt spoon feed you as you channel surf, but this is both a pro and a con. What if that movie tha people been raving about, I'd enjoy as well. But then again, I'm also much of an outsider, an alternative watcher. I like my content underrated.
The guy who said "she's tough" whom i mistaken for tony hale on the office romance trailer was actually Brian Gallivan whom i know from the sassy gay friend videos.
he was also one of the comedians hired to play straight roles in Soderbergh's The Informant, alongside with T.H.
It's time for Beginnings, the podcast where writer and performer Andy Beckerman talks to the comedians, writers, filmmakers and musicians he admires about their earliest creative experiences and the numerous ways in which a creative life can unfold.
On today's episode I talk to TV writer Brian Gallivan. Originally from the Boston area, Brian was a middle school language arts teacher before taking a risk to perform and write for a living, starting first with Boston's Improv Asylum and then, after moving to Chicago, with Second City. Since moving to Los Angeles, Brian has written for a number of shows including Happy Endings, Future Man, Splitting Up Together and created the CBS series The McCarthys.
I'm on Twitter here and you can get the show with:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After the sitcom "Happy Endings" was, ironically, abruptly canceled, writer Brian Gallivan looked close to home for his next gig: his own family inspired "The McCarthys," a new CBS comedy about a sports-obsessed brood with one gay son. http://dlvr.it/7NBwxr
Sassy Gay Friend is a series of videos on YouTube, starring Brian Gallivan, published on The Second City Network. Although this video is relatively old (published on October 9, 2010) I recently came across with it and really liked it, so I wanted to share it with you, too.
You can check out the videos of 'Sassy Gay Friend' here, which are absolutely hilarious.
