Ce n’est pas parce que les Black Keys sont de retour qu’on ne peut pas parler d’un autre duo, plus jeune et tout aussi enthousiasmant : âgés d’à peine 19 et 21 ans, les frères Angus et Joseph viennent de publier un premier EP sous le nom Captain Obvious. Enregistré dans les studios Sputnik Sound de Nashville (où des pointures comme The Raconteurs, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club et The Inspector Clouzo ont également sévi) et masterisé par Brian Lucey (à l’œuvre auprès des Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood ou encore… les Black Keys), Let It Burn sent bon l’essence et n’a besoin que d’une étincelle pour s’enflammer. Rappelant immanquablement les autres duos déjà cités, de Royal Blood aux White Stripes, la musique de Captain Obvious dégage aussi une forte odeur de MC5, ou même de The Dead Weather (pour rester dans la galaxie Jack White, encore et toujours), avec cette basse au fuzz lourd et cette batterie sèche comme le désert.
Pour preuve, le morceau-titre, « Let It Burn », au riff entêtant, qui ne laisse augurer que du bon pour cette jeune fratrie pleine d’avenir.
