Since I’m already talking about Valefarer here, I’ll give you some more details: It is “high” fantasy in that it is extremely fantastic and definitely otherworldly, and I am prioritizing the fantasy elements by digging into a lot of the things I love best about the genre: adventuring & mercenarism as a profession, wild & misunderstood magic, divine and arcane magical schools, overcoming incredible odds to defeat evil and injustice with the power of goodness, righteousness, kindness, and love.
It features a tight-knit group of adventurers with a focused protagonist, Lark Valefarer, who is on a mission of the utmost importance: rescue her best friend, Briar Emberwill, from the brink of death so that she can tell her that she’s in love with her.
It wouldn’t be me if there weren’t a whole host of tropes at play here, but I’ll definitely be hitting that best friends in love button pretty hard, as well as digging into found family and love conquers all and redemption through self-sacrifice.
Ultimately Valefarer is a story about coming into your own power despite overwhelming odds - a story that I feel like a lot of us can find things in to resonate with. I’m still very much in the planning-and-plotting stages, but I’ve got some cool things in progress that I’m going to start sharing, and I hope you’ll dig them.
