Prankster Trees | Briar & Ariel
Ariel had been diligently and excitedly been preparing for the Halloween festivities. Every time Sigmund received something new to the shop with a distinct spooky or just general October theme, he called Ariel in to figure out if she wanted it for herself. She had to control and restrain herself from buying up everything he had, instead looking at the other shops around town, even venturing down to the Galleria. Just a few short days into the month of October and she was more than ready for it to be the thirty-first.
To settle down a little and pace herself, she’d begun a leisurely walk around Mythos, enjoying the spooky decorations popping up. But Ariel couldn’t deny the odd feelings in the air, the puzzling mishaps, and lingering presence of...spirits creeping behind her. She tried to tell Finn, who told her to not stay up watching scary movies, while trying to hide his visible shudders. She wanted to investigate, which lead her walk into the park, specifically on the path closest to the trees.
Lo and behold, when Ariel’s thoughts distracted her from her mission, she felt a tickle on her shoulders, well, more of a deliberate caress. With a jump, she stared up at the tree branch, giving it a questioning look, but it hardly seemed that the leaves could reach her. Glancing about, Ariel’s curious blue gaze tried to spot someone else to confirm or deny her suspicions, leading her to a young woman walking in the opposite direction on the other side of the trail. Yes, she had to have witnessed it too, Ariel firmly believed. “Hi there, could I ask you something?” she greeted as she made her way over.
“Do you think there are...spooky spirits here in town this month?” Ariel rushed out, momentarily feeling silly for acting like this.
