Resting at the 1428 Ponte dei Frari (Friar’s Bridge) over the Rio del Frari, while on my way towards the 1250-1338 Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (Basilica of Saint Mary Glorious of the Friars) in the Sestiere di San Polo (Saint Paul District) of Venice, Italy

The bridge, river, basilica and area call Campo Frari is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and the Franciscan friars who established the church.

The Ponte dei Frari spans over the Rio del Frari (Friar’s River), and links the islands of Campo Frari and Campo San Samuele.

This picture was taken circa 2015, during my art “pilgrimage” to Roma, Venezia, Napoli, and Paris.

Fort Lafayette was originally named Fort Diamond when built in 1822. It was renamed after a famed Revolutionary War French military officer. The fort was located between Long Island and Staten Island and it housed Confederate prisoners during the Civil War.
