I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue my Broppy Hadestown AU, but I got such an enthusiastic reblog gushing about it a while back that it motivated me to make more!

I know I said in the first post that Bridget and Gristle were too loving to be Hades and Persephone, but then I realized that I am the arbiter of my own fate and I can give characters as much divorced couple energy that I want, so screw it! They’re them now!

I had fun giving Gristle such a grim and serious vibe, since he’s so goofy in the movies.

I just had a really. REALLY evil thought. So like... Bridget. She's a purple bergan (more of a desaturated/grey purple but still purple) and has naturally pink hair canonically in her 20s. The Chef is a purple bergan with pale blue hair and while ages are rather difficult to tell with some of the older Bergans, she is likely in her 40s-50s based on how she looked to be in her 20s-30s in the movie opening. We know Bridget has been in the palace at a very, very young age and has no apparent parents we are aware of. She also is implied to have had history with the Chef as Chef has immediately targeted her. She also never had a troll before and is implied to have been exempt from the Trollstice.

So my evil thought is this: what if the reason Bridget was working at the palace as a child and had never had a troll before is because she is related to the Chef? And when the Chef was banished, Gristle Sr kept her on because, quite frankly, he felt a mix of pity and maybe blame towards her because of who the Chef was to her. Sort of a "Damn, I threw this kid's legal guardian out, but also, I'm still mad at the Chef, so I'll just keep her around as a maid or something." type situation and since the Chef was effectively disgraced the rest of the family wanted nothing to do with Bridget?

My idea stems form a childhood memory since my mom used to work at this bakery and whenever she'd close late at night on weekends she'd drag my little self and my older brother with her to help her out. We'd do small cleaning tasks like stacking chairs or, in my case, help mom with prepping some of the stuff for the morning crew to bake during closing hours. Effectively we were free labor and I can see the Chef doing soemthing like that with any kid she got out in charge of and probably being particularly nasty to them.

Oh that is evil...very evil...

Also very likely, since we never see any extended family to Bridget other then Aunt Smide in the third movie, and we're not even sure if she's bridget's blood relative or Gristle's. The only problem I see with this is that the Chef literally asks Bridget what her name is in the first movie. If she was Bridget's mother/relative, wouldn't she know her name? Or recognize Bridget? Granted the Chef is a monster so it's not to far off the cliff side to believe she'd forget about a child in her care.
