(via Emma Hack Gallery on Instagram: “This new artwork will be launched in Austria later next month, can't wait to see it printed!”)
I had the absolute pleasure of working as a body art model for Emma Hack’s latest collection (or maybe not quite entirely pleasure - these were taken after thirteen hours of being painted, in a massive animation studio, a few days before winter solstice. I was sore, tired, and frozen, but I still love the result). The first image in the series has been released online, and the exhibition will be opening in Austria next month before heading to Melbourne (well, the Mornington Peninsula) and Adelaide.
Flyering for After Hours Cabaret Club at Gluttony, 2018. Tickets through FringeTIX Photo by Tony Virgo.
Last night After Hours Cabaret Club took over The Octagon at Gluttony, and had such an incredible night. We’ll be back in there tonight, before we wander back over the path to our regular home at La Petite Grande. I’ll be on stage with these beautiful freaks Feb 23 to March 1, and March 9 to 15, and there are different acts to be seen each week. Come see me do strange things with my body! Tickets through FringeTIX.
very good things
- I have a proper internet connection for the next two weeks! - Proper internet is a result of hanging with my second family out in the country. - After four months of tireless job hunting, I’ve finally pulled together enough casual work to cover all of my expenses and start throwing money into my new show. - One of the sources of said casual work is my new job in a book store, starting the day I get home (we’re going to pretend that I’m not going to spend my entire income on books). My art is now funded by books, chocolate, festivals, and pop culture conventions, because I hate funding applications <3 - I survived my first roving contortion gig! - I’ve been approved for RPL to finish my dance teaching qualification at a huge discount. - The theatre course I finished years ago has finally been conferred, and I officially receive my qualification next month! Now I just need to finish writing this show, have some costumes made, and get some new photos and footage organised. And maybe try to will a few more distance ed dance courses into existence, because they’re making me very happy.

I’ve had such glamorous gigs the past few months. Now I need to see a physio to have my back made happy again before I tackle some projects that are weirder and much more Bridgett.
I’ve spent the past month submitting applications, contacting agents, being interviewed, and planning gigs and projects for the rest of 2016, and have been told to expect calls this week onwards, which means I'm reluctantly answering calls from unknown and blocked numbers. Of course this means that I’ve been inundated with calls from unknown and blocked numbers, and of course, they’re not only not calling with good news, they’re not even calling for me. Three calls from three different numbers by three different people all wanting to talk to some guy called Giacomo about an interview he had in Sydney last week. And, of course, none of them have even been remotely close to knowing how to pronounce Giacomo.
This week was to be dedicated to cleaning out the stuff I’ve had in storage for more than a decade, but the idea of photographing hundreds of pieces of clothing and uploading them to ebay is so overwhelming, that I’ve spent most of the week at the library working on festival submissions and registrations instead. This library is such a strange place. In the space of an hour... A librarian tried to explain to a woman that the book she wanted wasn’t here at the moment, but no matter how she worded it, the woman would only reply “but this is a library”. The conversation lasted a good five minutes. An elderly woman was telling anyone who’d listen about her time working as a teacher in regional Australia, and referred to her students as detritus. And then a librarian was teaching a little old man how to use the photocopier, and he cut her off mid-sentence by delivering his own rendition of Space Oddity. Pandora’s Peeping Tom radio is keeping me from tearing my hair out today. I think I need to bake something for the incredibly patient souls who work in this place.
