Today I took a little trip to rest, and finally picked up Bridgman’s book on the plane — for the countless time.

Honestly, I can't even remember how many times I've opened it, but this time I decided to actually try to pull some real meaning out of it.

Whether I succeeded is still an open question. I still can’t shake the feeling that I’m just mindlessly copying the drawings instead of really using the knowledge the way real artists do.

So, once I finish the chapter on the torso, I’ll try to apply it in practice — doing more quick sketches and studies rather than just copying.

You’re supposed to do one hand study a day. I did this 6 months ago and never did another hand study again because my inner saboteur rules over me ig.

Bridgman figure drawings are simplified, but also incredibly complex, and trying to understand how he approaches anatomy can be frustrating for artists. My old teacher, Jeff Watts, recently authored a book where he breaks down Bridgman’s work in a way that’s accessible for students.
