Ancient History, little bit of religion
-Being natural apex predators(eyes, ears, sense of smell and their skin is naturally camouflaged) much of what they esteem comes from hunting/killing prowess.
-Before Jirak, Orcs mostly worshipped animals that were top of the food chain. After Jirak died is when he became a part of their lore and religion. This is also when religion and daily life became more intertwined for Orcs.
-After the battle with & against the Dark Lord, Jirak helped maintain peace between the other races & Orcs. After Jirak’s death, Elves began taking over and Orcs became the scapegoat of everyone’s problems.
-During this time period the massacre of Orc clans was encouraged. Though great predators, Orcs are not actually overly aggressive towards the other races. Rather than attack in return, Orcs began fleeing areas where they were in danger.
-This passivity did not help their reputation and increasingly, all other races placed themselves as ‘better’ than Orcs. Orcs turned to the memory of the great Orc Jirak, and the hope that another like him would come and lead them.
-Orc hatred ebbed and flowed over the centuries; in the last few hundred years Orcs are mostly just the lowest class of any society. Though in general they are not trusted, they are more and more, able to get better jobs and educations.
-Yes, greedy power hungry Elves with magic wands are to blame for this. Most everyone knows this, but it’s like there is an invisible force that keeps the Elves in power…
