Today I started my chest tattoo, which I have been planning for months, Back in March When I got to see BTS, I had a lot of feelings. That entire weekend was an emotional trip and a half for me but there was one moment that stood out the strongest in my heart. The VCR that played before J Hope’s solo stage for Mama opens with this butterfly being painted onto the screen.  I was a psych major in college, and my first thought was that this looks like a Rorschach. I fell in love with that idea. But above that... I thought, of course, of my mom. When I first read the lyrics for Mama, I cried. A lot. Because I relate very strongly to the message of the song. I grew up as the child of a poor single mother. I watched my mom work hard every day as I grew up, constantly going without so that I could have the things I needed and wanted. She worked graveyards, she worked in kitchens, she did what she had to in order to make sure that I was taken care of and happy and able to follow my own dreams and live a happy life. My mom has always been a huge source of strength to me, encouraging my progression in life and making me feel strong in ways that only the love of a mother can. It’s been two years since I’ve seen my mom, and when I saw this image, especially in connection with my background and with the song Mama right after, I just knew. This was it. This was my next tattoo. (I also happen to really love the song Butterfly so low key this represents a lot of things for me) So I took some reference pics as soon as I could find a decent angle on a fan cam (that was a struggle, trust me) and I went to my artist. We adapted it a little bit, and filled it with bright colors to really give it my own personal twist and make it represent ‘me’. I have a very bold and forward style and am known for being a fan of bright colors from my decor to my hair and everything in between. After this heals, I’m going back in and we are going to put black and grey behind it to really solidify that ‘Rorschach Test’ feeling like the image here, and really make the color pop. I am so happy with the result and looking forward to having this piece which for me represents the strength of my past, where I have come from, and my own power and ability to keep going forward and become the person I want to be.  It hurt like a bitch though.
