Gooooooooood evening, one and all! Both Admins here at Brightwood Academy hope you’re all having a splendid time thus far. This evening, we are here to announce our next plot drop here at the Academy! Thank you all for making our previous event, Homecoming Week, such a success! We hope we can continue the streak as we move forward! Now, on to our next plot drop: Preliminary Exams!
Beginning Friday morning and running through Sunday evening, Brightwood Academy will be holding preliminary exams for all students! These exams will serve to test both Guardians and Guarded on where their skillsets are at the beginning of the school year. Essentially, this will be used to gauge the proficiency of Guarded students with using and controlling their powers, and to gauge the proficiency of Guardian students with their abilities in tracking and hand-to-hand combat.
As I said, exams will run from Friday-Sunday, so that everyone will have an opportunity for their exams to take place. I (Admin C) will choose the pairings for this exam. I will release this list tomorrow morning so that everyone will have the chance to discuss any HC’s with their partners prior to exam time. On the day(s) of the exam, each Guarded and Guardian student will receive a message from us, letting them know their exam has begun. Along with this message will be a list of “clues”. These will come into play during the exam.
IC: When the time comes for their exam to start, Guarded students will be taken to a secret location somewhere on school grounds. Guardian students will be notified by staff that their Guarded has been taken, and it is their job to track, locate, and defend their partner. Guardians will use the clues included in the “Start Exam” message to achieve this. While Guarded students wait for their Guardian, they will be tested on their use and control of their power, whatever that may be. Once a Guardian has located their Guarded, they will be required to engage a member of staff in hand-to-hand combat. The goal is to overcome the staff in order to “free” their Guarded. Basically, the Guarded’s power will be tested in a “fight” scenario until their Guardian shows up. During the combat, Guardeds will act as “Coaches” of sorts, guiding their Guardian through the fight from a different vantage point. This is because exams are designed to test all students individually, as well as their ability to work in a pair. And, this also highlights the fact that Guardeds are intended to be the more Dominant of the pair.
Please note that any student who refuses to participate will automatically fail the exam. Any student unable to overcome the staff member, as well as students who fail to work together and communicate effectively, will be graded based on the skills they did demonstrate, and will be assigned extra training/study time based on those marks.
OOC: Everyone has the option to fully write-out their exams in a para format, should they choose. However, life is hectic and this can be time-consuming, so for that reason you are more than welcome to simply HC what occurs during exams with your partner. If you choose to HC your exams, we do ask you place those HC’s on the dash in a post labeled “EXAM 001 HCs”.
Finally, I will be including the Guarded member of each pair’s location to the player when the “Start Exam” message is sent out. Exams do occur one at a time IC, so please keep this in mind. Of course, though, the use of time bending will exist due to everyone’s varied schedules. So, you’re welcome to continue writing about exam time for up to a week following their close, to make sure everyone has the chance to do what they wish to do. Guardeds are permitted to share their locations with their Guardian OOC, however we just ask that everyone please remember these exams are not designed to be easy. Whether you’re writing out your exam with your partner, or employing the use of HC’s, we should see no instances of characters finding their Guarded after only 10 minutes of looking. IC Guardians are permitted up to an hour and a half to track, defend, and free their Guarded. We also want to keep this as realistic as possible. Not every student is going to do well. We ask that you please be honest with yourselves about your characters and how well or not well they would realistically do on the exam!
The last thing to keep in mind- this type of situation, even in a simulated setting, absolutely can trigger soulbonds. That being said, if I happen to pair you/your character with someone you may actually be intending to ship with, or someone you think might trigger a bond and you do not want that to happen yet, please contact either Admin S or myself so that we can make adjustments to the pairings list quickly! As always, any questions, please feel free to reach out to one of us! Happy Exam Time, Students!
*PLEASE NOTE that if you have not been meeting activity requirements for this RP, your character(s) will not be included in the exams. Anyone who wishes to participate but has not met activity requirements will need to contact an Admin to discuss.
