What Ever Happened? | Britta & Margery
"Well, I hope you are quite pleased with yourself!" Margery said to her daughter as soon as she had dismissed her ladies-in-waiting, "Ever since you were a little girl, I've been trying to get you a decent match, but you've thrown them all away with your appalling behavior. Do you think a man wants a wife who tears through the countryside like some savage?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
She stepped closer to Britta then, her eye going over her daughter's appearance. "Wear the green one instead," She commanded, "We mustn't have Petyr Alainon changing his mind about you. Who then will you have as a husband? I'll have half a mind to give you to Robion Barret, for Everard will not have you."
Margery knew that Britta despised Robion Barret. So did everyone, including Margery, but even she might suffer him as a son-in-law to punish her daughter for her behavior.
"Go on!" She snapped, "You don't have much time before the guests arrive and I won't have Lord Alainon standing there gawking without his wife to be. It is your impending marriage we are celebrating, after all."

So Here We Are | Ana & Britta
If you ever see her, you must turn away before she sees you.
Britta was one of the last people alive who could identify Ana as Cassandrya Moysaunt and therefore she was dangerous. Ana once thought she could trust Britta with her life, but she had been proved wrong. Britta had announced to the world what she thought of the Dragon Riders and they could be friends no more.
It hurt that they ever were.
Ana had loved her friend's boldness, her sense of adventure, but also her honesty. She always told you what she thought and damn the consequences. She would not have said those things if she hadn't meant them.
Ana knew Britta's habits well: she knew the places where she would go and the places she wouldn't. Avoiding her had been easy. But it couldn't last.
It was dusk and Ana had gone to get water from the well just outside of town when she saw Britta upon her horse headed back towards the Mortain castle.
Her clothes gave her away, but Ana would have recognized her all the same: she had the same look on her face as she did when she was a child, but she had grown into a woman now. Without thinking, Ana took a step towards her and almost found herself calling out her name, before she remembered that she couldn't. And that's when Britta glanced in her direction.
If you ever see her, you must turn away before she sees you.
Ana turned away as quickly as she could. It was likely she had not seen her: it was growing dark and surely she would suspect that her eyes had played tricks on her, rather than believe that Cass Moysaunt was still alive. Still, Ana had not turned away the moment she saw Britta and she feared that it would prove to be her undoing.
One Day | Rob & Britta
"Shall we have a drink?" A man in the pub asked him. "To celebrate."
His brothers had said that they were going to keep the dragon egg a secret, for now. But perhaps Ned had announced it. Still, he asked, "What are we celebrating?" He grinned still, waiting for the praise that would come. He had found the dragon egg. He would bring strength and status to the south.
"What are we celebrating?" The man replied, laughing, "As if you didn't know. Lady Mortain has betrothed her daughter to Lord Alainon." He laughed again, "Surely you didn't think that that would be you?"
Everyone who had overheard this was laughing now, but Rob couldn't hear them over the sound of his blood boiling. He slammed his fist down on the table, "Enough." He cried, before leaving the tavern in a rage, not needing the calls of the barkeep who he had not payed.
The egg was to hatch in two days. When had this happened? Was this some cruel joke that fate had played on him? He wondered if he should have made Britta one of his demands when he made his deal. He had been confident that he would be able to win her on his own, but he hadn't thought her mother would give her away.
He gained admittance to the castle under the pretense of being there to see his brother. He looked everywhere for her, until he finally found her in one of the courtyards.
"Is your mother mad? Petyr Alainon?" Even the name sickened Rob. "Your children will be insane. They will be traitorous and murderers. Has everyone forgotten how his uncle betrayed us all? And how his brother killed his entire family? And how his cousin went and got himself killed because he couldn't defend himself on the road?" His body had been so deformed that the only way they could prove that it had been Alymar was because of his clothes.
No matter. This would not last. One day, she would be his.
And My Love is Your's, but Your Love's Not Mine | Petyr & Britta
He had arrived unannounced and immediately realized that he should have known better. Lady Mortain was deeply apologetic, but she did not know where her daughter had gone. In fact, no one seemed to know her whereabouts. Petyr had to hide a smile: would he ever expect anything less of Britta?
Petyr had always had a vivid image of the family he would have one day and although, in the back of his mind, he always knew that the chances of him choosing his own wife would be slim, he had always believed that he would marry a woman he loved. While he had never loved Britta romantically, he did imagine that he could grow to love her. He had always admired her spirit and sense of adventure. It had been many years since they had seen each other, but he was confident that they could still build a life together and he would have the family his brother took away from him.
Lady Mortain was urging him to stay: trying to entice him with refreshments and the promise that Britta would soon be returning. In the end, however, Petyr said he would return later.
When they were children, they had not been allowed to play by the waterfall. It was a gorgeous site to see, but it was dangerous. The rocks at the bottom were slick with the water's spray and there were said to be creatures who lived in the depths who would swallow up anyone who fell in. But behind the waterfall had been one of Ana and Britta's favorite places to hide from Rob (who would never think to follow them there).
And that's where Petyr found her. She was taller and more beautiful than his childhood memories of her, but he still would have known her. Her hair had fallen loose of its bonds during the journey here and her dark tresses tumbled down her back.
She turned, abruptly, as he entered.
"Forgive me," He said,"I did not mean to startle you." He paused, his eyes falling on the familiar keepsakes that the girls had hidden here long ago. "I thought I might find you here," He said, softly. Somehow, this was comforting. There were some habits, at least, that she had still held onto.

ooc | Ana & Britta Pt. 2
So, I was thinking about it, and I wonder if Ana actually thinks, for some reason, that Britta was basically pro-killing dragonriders? B/c I don't know that she would have let so much time go by w/o at least trying to reach out to her friend, you know?
