My Music: Silence
Silence
Many years back when I heard Simon & Garfunkel sing, “The Sound of Silence”, I was hooked. I was hooked by the music, and by the lyrics. It has always reminded me of a famous quote by P.D. Ouspensky, who was considered a disciple of George Gurdjieff.
“PEOPLE LIVE IN SLEEP, DO EVERYTHING IN SLEEP, AND DO NOT KNOW THEY ARE ASLEEP.“
P.D. Ouspensky

Nano Questions
Questions for you:
How long have you been writing? I have evidence of my writing from the age of 10, though I actually have written works with parental prompting from the age of 5, which is insane, so like......23 years?
When you start a project, how do you start? With character, setting, plot, aesthetic, something else? Normally characters and their problems show up first, I write a plot/outline, stopping to world build as necessary - I joined a Creative Writing Club at university. Turns out they were all into writing self reflective poetry while I had stopped writing book 3 in a series to write a virtal conlang for it. I was not invited back.
What’s your favourite part of the writing process? Hooking all my world building together, and rereading at the end. Writing itself is the most weary and hardest, but I push through and am rewarded.
What genres do you write? Fantasy, specifically Low Fantasy
Where’s the strangest place you’ve ever written? None of them are strange, but I write in churches and museums and trains and planes.
Questions for NaNo:
Have you participated in NaNo or camp NaNo before? Yes, I think this is year 10?
What made you decide to join up? I don’t remember, but I like having a goal and the community spirit helps.
What are you most excited about/looking forward to? FInishing. That sounds awful but finishing this book is my last excuse to not publish, so onto publishing after
Anything you’re a bit nervous about? I need to rewrite a lot of the ending, so that’s a bit daunting?
Have you done a lot of preparation? Or none whatsoever? I have an 8 page outline and a 304 page wikipedia.
Do you have a workspace, schedule, or daily goal? Daily goal is ALWAYS 3k
Questions for your wip:
What’s your NaNo wip titled (if it has one)? Brilliance
Tell us a bit about your NaNo wip! For example the plot, genre, themes…
POV: Third person, two voices
Theme: Individual vs Society, Change of Power, Oppression
Summary:
Having escaped death at the bottom of a mine and evaded the Most Wanted list for two year, Kite Durand is dead set of making sure no one else with the gift dies like the others did. Piecing together clues from the nights before she was sent to death, the breadth and explanation for these executions is even more horrific than intended. On her journey to end this tyranny, she picks up both allies and enemies, discovering if any of her family is left alive after their escape from 28. The long road is laid with assassination, with revolt, with the many curses, the revelation of those still alive, and that the price of the goal may be too much for a single person to pay….
What is your protagonist like?
Kite Durand has never gone down the path it seemed she was supposed to - moved schools when she was just fitting, best friend placed elsewhere when they should have moved in together, not allowed to study Alchemy when she was good at it, not even allowed to work with horses when she clearly was good at it, the bad luck continues when she wakes up in a prison labour camp, with no explanation as to how she got there. Perhaps the best luck she had was making friends and escaping, except that it was marred with death, torture, and the revelation that all the hate circling around her is because of the gift magic she isn’t even aware she has. Temporarily safe in the capital city, she is determined that no one else should go through what she did, least of all children….
Emotionally in tune with anyone, at any time, so good it’s almost like it’s magic….
Genuine horse whisperer, probably
Aptitude for maths, chemistry, and how to make stuff that melts, explodes, or disappears. If only she was allowed to do this
Morally motivated, yet religiously skeptical
Third choice introverted leader that will measure your reaction before being honest and kind.
Will make thoughtful decisions if you won’t
Has a weakness for chocolate
Annoyed at her own sensitivity and takes what you say a bit too personally
High self confidence, low self esteem
Have you been planning it for a while? Conversely, do you know anything about it yet? This is a fresh rewrite and draft from the original 2012 story. The major beats are similar but otherwise it is a complete fresh tale
Thank you @thewriteblrarchives
