Threw together the photos I've been using for my desktop slideshow lately, for a slapdash vid. Also to give me something to experiment with, since I'm still new to video editing and posting to YouTube. Includes draft photos from photoshoots, and not just my finalized favorites.

5:20 PM 3/8/2025 TOUKEN RANBU KAI KYODEN E1 - A Recurring Dream

Ah, so this series will be about the Oda clan. I guess the Dategumi will always rule the Hanamaru series instead.

I love how the different brothers are being shown together. Like the Kunihiro brothers here.

I like the look of this series so far. It's not predominantly battle, like Katsugeki. It's not all fluffy slice of life, like Hanamaru. Nice mix. Good animation quality. And that mix of fluffy and battle is what we love about the original videogame, I think. …That and the bishonen/ikemen. lol

Now this is interesting, because in the previous series, Hanamaru, Kashuu and Yamanbagiri were training against each other, but Kashuu was trying to catch up to Yamanbagiri. In this series, they're equal. Or maybe Kashuu has more skill because he was able to back up Yamanbagiri into wall AND sweep his ankles. But now Kashuu is saying Yamanbagiri manifested first. I thought at first this was saying it was like a continuation of Hanamaru, in some slight way. But I guess it's saying this is a completely different Citadel. The Saniwa (from what we can see of them) seems different, after all. And the Saniwa's attendant is Mikazuki instead of Heshikiri.

I love all of Tsurumaru's comments so far. "Let's have a free for all sparring match instead of 1 on 1!" "I wish I was drunk on amazake!" LOL Gawd, I love the Dategumi. ^-^

I'm surprised Yamanbagiri offered to join the tour. He's usually so focused on keeping to himself. But if he's taking over the actual guide role from Souza, that's really nice of him. He noticed Souza was uncomfortable about talking.

I forgot how serious Hasebe can be. Now I get why this series focuses on the Oda swords. They all have so much drama about their relationship to Oda. Some of them hate him, love him, or have accepted ambivalence.

The thing is that if Souza feels bad because he was sheltered as a symbol, more than used as a sword…He can still fight right now. He's got a new master. That's the interesting thing about all the Touken Danshi: Some of them are fixated on their original owners, even if they're bitter towards them. But some of them focus more on their new master, the Saniwa, and that keeps them going. So… Hasebe has moved on from Oda onto the Saniwa. Souza hasn't moved on from Oda and is sad about it. Fudou Yukimitsu hasn't moved on from Oda and is happy about it. Yagen has moved on from Oda onto the Saniwa. So I guess their character arcs will require the ones who haven't moved onto the Saniwa to move. And maybe for Hasebe to reexamine his bitterness towards Oda, even though he already has moved on.

It's interesting that Yamanbagiri is getting such focus again. He was commander of the "cooler squad" in Katsugei. And he's in a lot of Hanamaru. I didn't know he was so popular. I mean…He got 2 Nendoroids and was in the butai stage plays…And he's one of the 5 starter swords… So I guess it makes sense. It's just so odd to me, because I'll always think of Kashuu as the first starter sword. Maybe that's just because I watched Hanamaru first. But wait. Wasn't he the first Touken Ranbu Nendoroid? Maybe that's why.

The end credits sequence is on stairs, like the butai stage show. lol

Also, this episode focused a lot on Souza, and I realized "Oh, this is how people see Viktor from Arcane's character design." There's a kind of elegance I've seen in the fanon around Viktor that I feel like matches part of Souza's canon aura.

It's funny that I just saw the trailer for The Mandalorian And Grogu, but I was more excited at just finding the trailer for Touken Ranbu Hanamaru season 3. I didn't even know it was getting a 3rd season!!!🤩🎊 (That Star Wars trailer was trying so hard to make that ATAT falling feel epic...It tried SO hard...😅)

1:04 PM 3/10/2025 TOUKEN RANBU KAI KYODEN E3 - A Worthy Man . I had a bad feeling as soon as Tsurumaru opened his mouth. LOL I'm glad that Mitsutada expressed the same apprehension. LOL But well, good things aren't always fun and bad things sometimes are. lol . I really don't know what to do to help the Oda swords. It's like when they're not actively having an argument, I can think of all sorts of things. But then when they're actually having an argument scene, my mind goes blank. Stupid emotional overwhelm. . At least Yamanbagiri seems to have resolved his insecurity. I'm glad his brother thought of just the thing to say. I really like when the sibling swords get to interact, and I wanted more than what I saw from Hanamaru.

1:31 PM 3/10/2025 Just finished op on ep4. . I LOVE that it was Tsurumaru's idea to have this crazy teams vs teams training session. ^u^ It was so surprising, I laughed out loud. But since laughter is the natural reaction to surprise, I guess it can't be helped. This series, more than Katsugeki or Hanamaru is really making me understand why Tsurumaru loves surprises so much. ^o^ . Also got confirmation that there are other Citadels. And they can have sparring sessions against each other. Interesting. . I loved seeing Tsurumaru's fighting style. His footwork was so unconventional, jumping around. I love it!

I liked that Yamanbagiri realized is "fake" label made him similar to Fudou Yukimitsu's "useless" label. Even though I've been annoyed with Yukimitsu all this time, it was nice to see Yamanbagiri sympathize with him. . The Time Retrograde Army can possess people? I guess it got introduced with Yasuke in Yamanbagiri's flashback. . But why possess Ranmaru instead of just defeating Akechi's army? Is it so important that Ranmaru appear to be doing it?

9:03 PM 3/11/2025 TOUKEN RANBU KAI KYODEN E8 - Honnoji In Flames . It's so weird. I just couldn't feel sympathy for Fudou. I could consciously tell myself "This is important to him" and "Oda is important to him", but I guess my mind was still on "but he's endangering the mission". Maybe practical matters supersede in my mind? I mean, in Hanamaru, they also had story arcs where the Oda swords had to oversee Honouji Temple had its incident undisturbed. And in Katsugeki, they also had swords who desperately wanted to see their masters again, even if it would change history and go against their mission and saniwa. But it wasn't annoying or unsympathizable in either of those series for me. I wonder why I couldn't feel more bad for Fudou…????? . As soon as I heard that head in the box was "Kojuro" and a woman was crying over it…I was like, "Oh. I KNOW what THIS is!" DATE MASAMUNE STORY!!! Does Kai Kyouden have enough episodes for that? Or is this a short series and that was a teaser? . 10:13 PM 3/11/2025 . Midway thru---WAIT A SECOND. IS THIS A MOVIE? AN OAV??????????? I thought this was just ep9! . Is that why they reset Yamanbagiri to his former insecurities from the first part of this series???? After he resolved it in the previous episode or 2??? . But also…. . Why did this episode start with some Date clan stuff? It's about Hasebe and his former master. Why bother giving the Date clan a scene? (Later me edit: I mixed up Kai Douden with the end of episode 8.) . I really like that Ookurikara and Yamanbagiri are interacting a lot in this OAV. In Hanamaru, they were very similar in demeanor. And Katsugeki portrayed Yamanbagiri very much like Ookurikara. So I like seeing their contrasts in this series, along with them working together, complimenting each other's similarities. . Hang on. Is this OAV or whatever, a prequel to the rest of the series? At the beginning of this series/season, Mikazuki was Attendant and said that Yamanbagiri was originally Attendant but resigned. And then they spent the first portion of this series with Yamanbagiri taking over, reinstated from Mikazuki. Is this a prequel??? But wasn't Yasuke escaping at the end of the previous episode? I'm so confused. . And now Fudou is appearing. So this was definitely a prequel to this season. But why was it positioned like episode 9? . 10:44 PM 3/11/2025 . I guess this prequel, extended episode was an end cap for the series/season. . I think there's another season of Hanamaru that I didn't finish yet. . 11:12 PM 3/11/2025 . Since that's it for Kai Kyouden and this Kai Douden special, I want to re-watch those Dategumi episodes from Hanamaru.
